Run
Comments: I was worried about going out too fast, since my longest training run was 10 miles. I stuck with 10 minute miles for the first half of the race. Starting about mile 5 my legs started feeling really nice and loose. Once I hit the halfway point I decided to pick up the pace and started running about 9:30 miles. I had one mile at 8:20 (but it was a long downhill). At mile 12 my legs started feeling really strange, but they kept going. The last 1.5 miles was basically all uphill, so that was kind of tough. It was an absolutely beautiful run course, but it was crowded. It never really thinned out until the last 2 miles. It was a great first HM. What would you do differently?: Go out a little quicker at the beginning. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Stretched a little. Took a shower. Took a nap. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fear of running out of energy. Held back too much on the first half. Event comments: Very well organized, but there were just a ton of people. The porta-pottys all had lines. Even in the middle of the race. Luckily I never had to go. Absolutely beautiful run course. Breakfast at 3:30AM of cliff bar, 2 hard boiled eggs, apple, and water. Banana, power bar gel with extra caffein at starting line.
5 min slow jog. Looked at all the masses of people up at 5:30AM. It was great having a hotel room near the starting line.
