Pre-race routine:

Kevin went to the race with me and I picked him up at the cottage they were renting and left Brooklyn at 4:15! Picked up breakfast at the gas station in Brooklyn, ate a couple of granola type bars (can't remember brand name). Washed it down with Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Quick dip in the water, it was cold and woke me up.

Comments:

Felt much better on the swim. Started out to the right a bit and didn't have much bumping going on. Once I settled in breathing was pretty good. Water didn't seem as bad as when I got in to warm up. Happy about swim overall.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster!

Bike on area was a little congested but made my way through it.

Warm down:

Took a dip in Lake Michigan. Chilly but felt great on the body. Slowly waded in and then went for a quick swim.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flat tire.

Event comments:

Happy with race. Wanted to scope it out in advance of Steelhead. Early morning drive was worth it come August.

Flatted out at about 2.5 miles! Took about 4 minutes to change rear tire. Good practice! Should be able to shave time off of this in the future. Need to get a CO2 pump instead of hand pump. Rest of bike was good. Felt like I was flying. Frustrated about flat but not much you can do about it.

Course: Section were I got my flat was dirty/dusty due to construction. On run saw the bottle that I must have run over causing the flat.
