  • Comments: I did this race so I could get an idea of what Steelhead will be like. I wanted to see the water, some of the roads, get a feel for the hills, wind, etc. I raced keeping in mind that I have to do a 3 1/2 hour bike ride yet this weekend or Monday. I thought the race was well run, and the great music at the beginning was right on! I like the specific bike rack locations also. Seemed to be enough room to put your "stuff".

  • Comments: I wasn't expecting anything great from this. I thought it would be fun to try a race when I was away this summer, and hopefully it will help jump-start my training so I'll do well in my two DQ races when I'm back in NJ. And, since this is the first time I've raced since my injury, now I know that my body can handle this much effort without breaking down. My leg doesn't feel bad at all right now (what is it about race days that makes inflammation magically go away? this isn't the first time . . .). Overall, I'm ok with my performace (thrilled about the swim time - it was a real shock when I saw the results!) and this will hopefully serve as motivation in the coming weeks.

  • Comments: This was my first triathlon and although I felt totally wasted at the end, I'm ready for my next race(Spirit of Racine). I really underestimated how difficult the race was. I will need to do more bricks and long rides to survive the next race. I was happy that wife and baby were there to cheer me on. While I would say that a wetsuit was a must, it was interesting that the first swimmer out of the water was just wearing tri-shorts. Basically, I learned that while a wetsuit will keep you warmer and hold you afloat, it cannot replace having a good stroke and technique. A few negatives: They served pizza at the end of the race which I thought was kind of wierd. They should have had bagels, not pizza. I expected the expo to have booths, not a booth of overpriced tri-gear. The t-shirt that participants recieved was a low-quality cotton with a small firecracker emblem. I will wear it with pride as I wash my car or do chores.

  • Comments: This is a good race and my second year doing it. Changing the course from last year kind of threw me off but I adjusted well. Post race activities coulld use a bit of improvement.
