Pre-race routine:

Woke up throughout the night before with horrible stomach cramps. Mental note: No more weddings full of disgustingly rich food the night before races. So when I woke up, I was still kind of sick and could only manage to drink an odwalla smoothie. Anything more solid would have come right back up.

Managed to have my tire explode on my bike ride over there. Woot. It was loud enough that a driver pulled over and asked me if I was okay. So I had to call my husband and ask him to bring me a spare tube (I had one, but wanted to have one in bag for the race). I guess it's a good thing I meant to get there early because I still had plenty of time to set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

stretched a little, then watched the other waves start.
Swim
  • 23m 38s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Bleh - sucky swim! Couldn't see the buoy because it was directly in the path of sunlight, so I ended up treading water more than I would have liked. Also, since they flipped the swim course this year, I was trying to sight using my right side, which made me struggle horribly. Things went much better when I gave up on that and started sighting with my left again.
What would you do differently?:

working on my stroke
Transition 1
  • 04m 23s
Comments:

The bike start was really crowded, but I guess with 3000 participants what do you expect?
Bike
  • 35m 59s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Some lady fell over right in front of me as I was heading out, so I had to stop and slammed the seat into my thigh. So I spent the first mile of the bike muttering "ow, ow, ow" with each downstroke under my breath.

My stomach started cramping shortly thereafter, and I spent a lot of time wanting to stop and hurl into the bushes. But I kept going, and I guess it didn't hurt me much because I finished pretty well..
What would you do differently?:

eat something better for breakfast than cherry creek toxic goose poo water
Transition 2
  • 03m 48s
Comments:

Eh, I think I like taking transitions at a leisurely pace. Not going to be competitive with my swim time anyway :p
What would you do differently?:

not talk to people?
Run
  • 33m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

craaaaamps! Stupid cramps that started on the bike continued on the run. I didn't drink as much water as I should have because I felt like I was on the verge of hurling. I ended up walking a lot of the run and talking to a lot of women.
What would you do differently?:

Not look so stupid crossing the finish line!
Post race
Warm down:

There wasn't a lot to do, since I didn't really have anyone at the race. My dH wanted to sleep in, and my friend who was planning on coming was still hung over from the night before. I talked to a few of the women from my wave who made it back to the transition area, then went home and took a nap!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wedding food from the night before definitely was not helpful. I'm not sure if something was off with the food, since my husband was up all night cramping as well, or if we just weren't used to food that rich.

Event comments:

It was a fun race with lots of positive energy! Very friendly for first time triathletes. I just wish it wasn't at Cherry Creek Reservoir.
