Comments:

About what I expected. I waited for the 1st group to get out and go. There were still about 5-6 guys around me and I couldn't get any rythm going. First 100-200 or so was a cluster f*ck type of swim. Finally started getting everything under control, but siting is still not very good. I was zig-zagging pretty good. Only got kicked in the face once, and the leader of the next wave passed almost right overtop me at the 400 mark or so.
What would you do differently?:

More experience with open water swim and siting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

Took my time. Put socks on, so that probably cost me some time. Also forgot to unvelcro my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Unvelco shoes beforehand. Figure out if you are going to sit or stand.
Bike
  • 47m 31s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Could not get going on the bike at all. I was probably most disappointed in my bike because that was supposed to be my strongest (relatively speaking of course) leg. Was getting passed like I was standing still. Struggled on hills, then finally got going after about 3 miles. Of course, I didn't realize that there was a tailwind that was pushing me until we came back and the headwind hit me in the face. I felt worthless going about 12 MPH on the flat. Oh well...
What would you do differently?:

More hill workouts.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Thought this transition was ok. About forgot to take off my helmet but remembered at last second.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 29m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt ok off the bike until we hit the hill. The hill killed my calves and it took me a while to recover. Didn't stop, though. Felt like a rock was in my shoe for the last mile, but I keep going. Actually had a little kick at the end and finished feeling pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

More practice including more hill practice
Post race
Event comments:

First one is done! It was a good first race. Actually a lot tougher course than I probably should have had for a starter. It was a good feeling though to complete it.
