Total Time = 1h 30m 16s
Overall Rank = 88/303
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/28
Pre-race routine:

Too damn early to rise, but worth it in the end.
Event warmup:

coupla runs back to the transition for forgotten items, such as my chip.
Swim
  • 10m 40s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt in total control this swim, and despite the fact that I crossed the field on the outward leg and had to swim back to the buoy, I think I PRd the swim. I drafted as planned, but hated it when my draftee pulled up to breaststroke and I had to go around his legs. I also turned strong and navigated straight on the backstretch and on the homeward leg. I did wind up beating a guy in the head several times as he strayed too close to my right side recovery and I kept backhanding him upside the back of his head. It wasn't on purpose - he was just too close. After 4 or 5 strikes, he disappeared, only to grasp at my toes. I kicked free and left him.
What would you do differently?:

Swim further on first breath at the start to clear some choppy water; navigate better on the first leg.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Good transition and I was surprised to see that I was 7th overall in AG.
What would you do differently?:

run faster up the sidewalk?
Bike
  • 51m 4s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

I really tried to stay under a specific HR, except on climbs. I accomplished this goal and felt great about the ride. I didn't expect to exceed 20 mph with the HR limits.
What would you do differently?:

This was a good ride. Learn from it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

pretty quick, but I slipped to 13th in AG
What would you do differently?:

practice, I guess.
Run
  • 25m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I set up to stay in a HR zone but quickly found out that I'd set it too low for race conditions. I turned off the incessant beeping on the Garmin and settled in to a pace and HR I was comfortable with.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed harder, but this was a training race for the longer ones coming up in the fall.
Post race
Warm down:

drinking the free stuff and meeting up with BTers Sue and Reagan while waiting and watching Jill, Steve, Marci, Andy and my soccer/tri-buddy Ben finish the Sprint and Craig finish the Oly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

myself. I was practicing HR zones.

Event comments:

I wasn't going to Disco this year, but when Ben signed up and I started swim training, I decided to do it. Glad I did.
