Swim
Comments: This was an excellent swim. There were a lot of nervous starters, so I took spot right up in the front and ended up catching a great draft off of some girl. I tried to pass her a few times, but we were swimming the exact same speed, so I just decided to keep behind her and take it easy. She was a very good navigator so this was a big bonus. I have started taking my wetsuit off at the shore, which I know adds some time to my swim split, but it is much easier than trying to run in it to transition. What would you do differently?: nothing - second fastest in my AG even with the shoreline wetsuit removal sounds good to me! Transition 1
Comments: No issues Bike
Comments: OK so I am not having the best of luck with my bike this year. My chain fell off on the first hill. This has only happened to me twice, so I am not very practiced at getting it back on, and it took about four tries before I could go again. This was at least a 45 second delay and probably a bit longer. Had it not fallen off, I would have had the fastest bike split in my AG (by a lot) and I also would have taken 2nd in my age group. I am really still kind of pissed about this! Transition 2
Comments: no issues other than some relay runners standing in my fake transition spot, but they got out of the way pretty fast. Run
Comments: Oof I am a really bad runner right now! I got a side stitch at the halfway point and had to walk for about 20 seconds to get it situated. Still, I could have pushed harder... and should have now that I see the results and realize I missed the AG placement by only 16 seconds. I think I was discouraged about the bike chain and didn't really think there was much chance of placing. Silly me. What would you do differently?: run harder! This run is really not acceptable when you compare to my bike and swim splits, which were top in my age group. Post race
Warm down: Caught up with Steve and then waited for his dad to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: UGH. Bike issues and not being able to run! Event comments: This is a really fun local race. I do wish they would get the distances correct though! Run is actually 3.2 miles and the bike is 11.3, so don't be too impressed with my splits up there, because they ain't real! Last updated: 2008-07-01 12:00 AM

Bagel, drive down. Arrive a little late (what else is new). I was a late registration (deferred from last year), so they gave me a spot with the relay racers. The relay folks did not have a real transition area, just some fencing. I ended up leaning my bike up on transition perimeter and putting my junk all around it.
Ran to what we thought was the swim start, except they changed things this year, so we were actually running to the swim finish. We figured it out and then headed to the right spot. Thought we were super late, but the RD still had about ten minutes of talking to do, so just stood in my wetsuit and stretched (and sweated).
