Sunny
Total Time = 1h 23m 26s
Overall Rank = 60/186
Age Group = M34-39
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30. 2 hr drive to Leadville from Erie with usual morning Starbuck's (black). Packet pickup, then breakfast while I waited for my 11:00am start time. Oatmeal, OJ, and a slice of ham.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 08m 11s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Better than I thought, at least the first 300 meters. Good breathing, good pace. The altitude seemed to catch up with me a little and I felt it difficult to catch my breath after each flip turn.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I was hoping to swim in under 8:30, so I was happy.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

First time trying to transition with clipless pedals. I know I should have practiced this, but...
What would you do differently?:

Practice. Maybe forego wearing socks.
Bike
  • 40m 12s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Almost 5 minute improvement from my first tri in June. Maybe the course was easier, but I've been working on biking more than swimming or running. First time with the clipless pedals which seemed to make a huge difference. Genius that I am, I put an empty water bottle on my bike. Very thirsty at the end.
What would you do differently?:

More biking while taking advantage of the hills available in Colorado. Fill my water bottle.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Seemed to go okay with it being the first time switching between shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Try and practice riding with feet on top of shoes prior to T2. Kind of hard because the last 1.5 miles prior to T2 was uphill.
Run
  • 31m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I blew it. I started the run convinced that I was going to break 1hr 20 min, so I was really excited. About mile 2 I simply died. Had nothing left and even had to walk for about 30 seconds to give my legs and lungs a break. I was furious. If my daughter hadn't been waiting with a full water bottle about 1/2 mile from the end, I would have taken longer.
What would you do differently?:

I've been running more often and trying to do longer distances but apparently I need to be pushing myself harder during these runs rather than just running for distance. Drink more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and found my family. Water, more water and watermelon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run.

Event comments:

I enjoyed myself immensely despite my disappointment with the run. The course and the day were beautiful, and I definitely plan on doing this race again next year.
