Swim
Comments: Our wave had over 300 athletes, so the made it challenging for the start. I position myself way up front toward the right and still had people trying to crawl up on me. Had to push harder on the first 200 meters and we kept elbowing, kicking and knocking arms for that distance, then they finally all faded out of my way. The pro's were on the left side, probably where I should of been. Couldn't see anything up front just to go along the shores for the up leg. As I cleared everyone on my side, there was no one to draft from, so that really sucked. No advantage. The pro's on the left were into the sun, and just did not want to wast time to see where they were. Just focused on swim, and felt really good. HR dropped and just kicked it through. Felt good through swim finish. What would you do differently?: Make a major effort to positino myself right, and get to be where the pro's were. Not where I tought I should be. Remember in future races that only first 200m will be bloody, then all waters clear. So position where other fast people are so I can catch the draft wave and go gaster. Swim pace was too slow overall. Should of been about 1:15's to 1:20 because of training. Transition 1
Comments: Got out of water, ran to bike, and started to place things on. Saw that bike shoes were on ground and not on bike. So took time to clean feet and put shoes on. This was a time waster. Then headed out. Overall, transition as a whole was good. As I got outside and jumped on my bike, my chain fell off the bike. F)@&*!!!! This really threw me off the mental path for a few minutes. Tried to fight it on, had to stop, regain composure, place it on, then get going. What would you do differently?: Make sure that bike is fully set-up the way its supposed to be. i.e. shoes on the bike, and make sure that everthing is ready properly. Bike
Comments: Had the wrong gear on the way out and the computer on the bike did not read a single data. Luckely for me, my Polar HR had eveything running and recording. Except you cant's see that data so I raced blindfolded for the whole course. My zipp 808's worked really well. Overall except for the issues of the course, I ate well, and drank all the fluid I had set with me on the bike. What would you do differently?: Check everything in the morning of the race if bike is left overnight. Someone had changed or probably accidently bumped my shifters to another gear. Key is check you bike in the morning, and get there on time to do that. Had to do wife's and mine. Also check computer, etc... Differently need to practice on technical turning as this was a very challenging course with lots of turns. Overall good only because I'm pretty happy with my current bike pace on this technical course. Otherwise, I would say average. Transition 2
Comments: This was one of my best transition in a long time. Broke the 2min barrier, and need to continue working it till I brake the 1min next year. What would you do differently?: Not wear socks on the run, as this had to take some of my time away in the transition. Run
Comments: Felt OK on the run. My right hip was killing me, and forced me to walk a few times out there. Running is still a work in progress, but did well overall. Gatorade was cold, but water was mostly luke warm at a lot of the aid stations. Not happy about that. Couldn't keep my body cool down. By the end of the run, the temp had reached 96'F. Oh yeah,, I did finish my run with a very good sprint against aother runner, and this really felt good. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on my running, we have a long way to go still. Also not crash on my bike the weekend before. If too tired, stay in bed an rest. REST is a critical component. Just continue watching out till IMAZ in November. Post race
Warm down: Walked around to stretched the hip and the legs. hydrated and drank as much as I could. some food also was welcomed in my body. What limited your ability to perform faster: The injury I sustained the weekend before, and not having proper training during the week. Needed to stay more focus. Racing three races back to back is challenging for this year, but will be easier next year with base fitness improving. Event comments: This was a very well managed race and very well done. I definitively plan on coming back again for next year. Great course, except for the bike section, but loved it overall. Just need to continue practicing for this type of racing. Need to improve my speed on the run. Overall, awesome race, and the wife did supper well on her full Sprint and did hers in 2:03:27. She rocked. We had hopped for 2:30's. Not bad for a person who started training 4 months ago, and the only excersise she ever did was cheerleading back in high school. So we are all very proud of her. Last updated: 2008-07-13 12:00 AM

Got up early this morning, made coffee for both wife and I. Mother-Inlaw got up to make breaksfast buritto's for us. Ate about half of it, as it was a little too spicy from me. Family is from the south, so they like it a little too spicy for my taste.
I did have to go this morning, and felt pretty good so far. Body and mind feeling ready. Since about 40min commute from house to race site, just relax while driving and played "Eye of the Tiger" when we were within 2 miles of arriving to race site.
Did some good stretching, short calistenics for about 5min, and had to go again. Butterfly's popping up again, and stomach noching up, but trying to keep wife relaxed, and keep encouraging her that everything will be fine. She is very nervous, but know she will do fine.
