Swim
Comments: Overall this was an improvement for me. My main problem now (other than working on speed) is my sighting. I WAY overswam the first lap. I stayed on course better the second time and took about 3 minutes less to get around, so I really need to work on that. I also tried to kick a little more than usual (which is not much), which worked great except I couldn't keep up with endurance. So I am going to work hard on my swimming this winter! I know I can get better and save a lot of time there. What would you do differently?: Better sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Was tired and my suit stuck more than usual. But tried to pick up the pace a little when I got my bike. What would you do differently?: Realize right away my suit was stuck on my chip and yank harder. Bike
Comments: Pretty average for me. I've been biking more than anything and trying to find hills. My major problem here is that I put too much into the bike, leaving me spent for the run. I just don't know the best way to balance that. Aaron gave me a shout out on lap one and he looked great! I didn't see anyone else I knew racing though. I saw my dad twice on the second loop, which helped a lot. Too bad he was at the top of hill and he offered me oxygen when he saw me come back :) Must have looked pretty bad. What would you do differently?: Pace and drink more maybe. Transition 2
Comments: A bit faster than previous races I think, so that's good. I missed my row by one, but was able to scoot under another rack - which is kind of amazing really since I was one of the last folks on the course. Well, there was a Sprint race and they had probably all gone home by then :) It was very crowded and I did struggle getting through some. Run
Comments: This was THE SUCK. I wanted desperately to quit after the first lap and if someone had accidentally steered me into the finishing chute I probably would have gone. One highlight early on was that I met Craig. I overheard him mention living in Hopkins to another guy, as I was drafting them, and stuck my nose in their conversation. We quickly made the connecting and that was the most pleasant portion of the first loop. Then, as I was finishing the first loop I noticed a guy who had been struggling as much as me and asked if he wanted to run together. We cheered each other on the rest of the run (thanks Chad!) and that helped a bit. But the whole 6.2 miles (must be short, since I walked so much, to get that time) were terrible. I ended up really sunburnt so I think I was just too overexposed at that point. My stomach made bad noises, I felt like crap, it was my worst tri run ever. I was also pretty sure I was about the last person on the course which does not help with the mind games. What would you do differently?: Not sign up for races in August when it will be hot? Not ever do this race again? Give up on triathlons any longer than a sprint? I am still thinking about this... Post race
Warm down: Kelly gave me a water since, of course, they didn't think to save anything for us slowpokes - although who needs it the most? Yeah... Got into the Lake and it was total and complete pure bliss. Lost Kelly so I just packed up and headed out for the next activities of the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not nearly enough run training and an overheating issue. I suppose the overheating is partly due to extra fat and not enough training in the heat. Event comments: Yet again, another Vacation Sports event I didn't enjoy. Will I learn my lesson? They really need to start earlier, knowing it will be hot in August almost surely. I wish I could start earlier, but such is the fate of a non-Elite female doing an Oly. Always last to go. Volunteers at these events are the BEST. Beyond that they needed another water stop with COLD water please and more cups. Last updated: 2008-07-14 12:00 AM

Already packed which is nice, have a good packing list down. Had to stop for gas on the way and was bummed because I really wanted to arrive early for once. Parking situation was bad, but I stuck my little car at the end of a row which ended up fine. I saw Aaron (Paddle2Paddle) in the assigned waiting area and chatted with him and met his wife, which was fun. Later saw Patti (RowdyPaint) and her husband on the beach and caught up with Kelly (Kelpeng) at the last minute. Got in the water and swam for a minute to get wet, which is really mandatory for a good start for me.
Nothing other than the quick dip, which was plenty.
