Swim
Comments: I started with the 2nd wave and got caught up in a group until the 2nd buoy. I tried to draft a bit, but stop after I kept inhaling water. I need to work on that. After I rounded the 2nd buoy I felt great. I was finally alone, then I looked up and realized why. I was in the middle of the course!! So I corrected and finished up well. Came out of water nicely and ran up to transition (further than last year.) What would you do differently?: Wait to hydrate myself until the bike!! Work on my sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Bike started on a hill and they had volunteers helping people. Someone basically had to run up the hill with me b/c I couldn't get my second shoe clicked in and I panicked (new shoes that feel much different). Once in I felt fine. What would you do differently?: Work on getting clicked in better. Bike
Comments: I feel great about this bike leg. It was just over 4 minutes faster than last year on this same course. I knew the hills would be tough, so I focused on maximizing speed elsewhere. The hills were still very hard, but this has been my fastest avg. mph to date, so I'm excited! What would you do differently?: I need more hill work. Transition 2
Comments: Had a hard time racking my bike, b/c I did not decide beforehand which way I was going to do it. I lost several seconds there and at the end of the race my bike was on the ground! What would you do differently?: Decide before how I was going to rack my bike on the return. Run
Comments: I had a little bit of cramping in my left calf during the first 1/2 mile or so, but it worked itself out. The first half I focused on keeping a fairly high cadence and just pushing through. The second 1/2 I kicked it into gear (the downhill helped) and really tried to push myself hard. Nice strong finish. One minute faster than last year, but it felt much better. Post race
Warm down: Cheered my friends through the finish. Had 8 oz. choc. milk. Grabbed a fleece and stretched my calves (I was freezing-my friend told me my lips were blue.) Event comments: Great race!! My best so far. Last updated: 2008-07-14 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep well, but what's new. Up at 5:45 and on the road by 6:25. Got there nice and early. Got set up basically in the middle of a large transition area. Had a banana around 7:45. PB&honey on ww for breakfast at 6:45 and coffee.
The transition area was different than in past years, so I took a few momments to walk myself through my transitions. Watched the oly distance start and through one lap. Got into the water and swam a relaxed 5 minutes or so. Got out and waited (and froze!!).
