Swim
Comments: Again my first race but I felt good about my swim. Started way left to account for the tide and ended up way left of the first buoy. Probably swam a little more then I had to.Started in the last group (Novice) and was in the lead for a good part. Got into trouble when I caught up to the group ahead of us (Athenas ?). Was also concerned that I would swim off course so I lifted my head alot. Did not need to do that as I was right on track. What would you do differently?: Well next time I will be in the Mens group and not novice. I think i will position myself behind the leaders and follow their draft for direction. I had plenty left coming out of the water so next time I am going to sprint all out. I think my time of 6:31 would of been in the top 20% of the mens group. With experience and training I think I could knock off at least a minute. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was bad. I really took my time getting sand off my feet, drinking etc.. Was more concerned at finishing my first race so I used the transition to get catch my breath and get on the bike. Big mistake. Really wanted to beat my 16 yo and never thought I would even be close to him. Lost by 40 seconds and this transition is where I lost. He is in trouble next time..punk! What would you do differently?: Will not use for rest period. SHoes and shirt on then start running with the bike and place helmet. Will drink and get glasses fixed on bike. Bike
Comments: Think I did OK . New to sport and brand new bike. Think I just need to train more. Course was flat and stayed in low gear with very little gear shifting. Started out pacing in the 20-22 mile range for the first 3-5 miles. Dropped into the15-17 mph for the next 5 or so and then finished pacing around 18-20mph. Can only get over 20 MPH on downward grades but can keep a consistent speed. Think I just need to train more What would you do differently?: Push harder and stay 18mph + Necer drop into the 12 -14mph rang. Stay in the tucked position and drink. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was no problem. Was riding with my running shoes. Just jumped off, racked the bike, hat on, drink and off Run
Comments: Run was bad and I know I could have done alot better. Came off the bike very tight and cold not sttech my stride out. Did not drink enough and this is where it started to affect me. Got very hot and this was the only time in the race where I felt bad and depleted. What would you do differently?: Drink more. Did not take water on the bike , big mistake. Might stretch quickly in transition. I am also trying to ride with bike seat higher which seems to give me better stretch. Have a feeling i am not fitted properly yet with new bike and this affected my run. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience. Need to hydrate and warm up better. I think I was faster in second leg of all segments. Once I was warmed up in each segment I got in a "groove" and seemed to get in a zone. I need to trust that I have the ability to finish and not hold back. I over paced myself . I also need to figure out how to gt more speed on the bike. I have the endurance but cannot seem to stay in 20mph + range Event comments: It was a great experience and run very well. Everyone was very helpful. Last updated: 2008-07-20 12:00 AM

Very first race and was not sure what to do. Hydrated up on Gatorade. Had a big meal the night before.
Did not do much. Ran a little and stretched. Would do much more next time. Felt tight in all segments of the race at start. I think next time I would swim ,run and bike a little right before race
