Swim
Comments: Last year: 11:20 24/26 age group 138/190 overall This year: 07:47 14/28 age group 149/341 Last year my swim was a disaster, so I really wanted to swim a respectable race so I could put it behind me. There was a lot of contact through out the race, but I kept at it and 8 minutes later I was done. What would you do differently?: I practice my swimming so infrequently that I can not complain about my results. Transition 1
Comments: Rack location was ok. Close to the bike entrance/exit, but all the way at the end of the row. The time includes a long run from the lake. I need to shave about 15 secs off this when I compare myself to the field. I could leave the shoes on the bike, but the problem is I passed 6 people in the first 100 yds who were fumbling with their shoes. What would you do differently?: Practice my transitions. Bike
Comments: Last year: 37:50 20.6 mph 12/26 age group 46/190 overall This year: 35:12 22.2 mph 2/28 age group 22/341 overall I was on a mission. I've spent all summer getting ready for SC HIM and doing long rides. I hammered it. I forgot how much fun it is to open up the throttle. by the end of the ride I was hoarse in the throat from yelling "on your left!" ;) What would you do differently?: Perhaps gargle salt water prior to the bike so my vocal cords are adequately warmed up. Transition 2
Comments: I fumbled tieing my shoes. Why am I too lazy to change to yankz? I need to stop having this issue at every race. I also forgot to put my garmin on for the run. Basically I'm an idiot. Oh wait, I did remember to take my helmet off. I guess there is hope. What would you do differently?: Yankz and review the plan for T2 during my last mile on the bike. I'm leaving 15 secs here and the shoe laces will fix that. Run
Comments: Last year: 25:01 8:03 pace 16/26 age group 69/190 overall This year: 21:45 7:01 pace 03/28 age group 25/341 overall I didn't have my garmin so I had to go with precieved exertion and finding a pace buddy. I picked the wrong buddy. I ditched him at the one mile mark and decided to start trying to pass who ever was in front of me. This worked much better. I ended up with a 5K PR. What would you do differently?: Bring the Garmin or pick my friends better. Post race
Warm down: Last year: 1:16:06 15/26 age group 68/190 overall this year: 1:07:27 03/28 age group 34/341 overall Went back out and cheered for the North Atlanta Multi Sport crowd. Hung around for the awards ceremony and watched my peeps bring home the hardware. My wife took 2nd overall. Not too shabby. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of any sort of taper. Event comments: This a really great low key race. I wish he'd get through the awards in about a quarter of the time. Last updated: 2008-07-21 12:00 AM

Last year I dd this race as my first tri, so I was focused to show improvement.
We stayed in a room onsite so the morning was easy. I woke up drank some coffee and took a shower. Our room came with a free breakfast so I stopped by and ate a few pancakes and a blueberry muffin.
Stretched my hamstrings.
