Swim
Comments: I KICKED SOME SERIOUS ASS ON THE SWIM. Well, no, not really, but....yeah...I kinda did. It has been nearly a dozen years since I have swam in a lake, and I think I did a great job. I did breaststroke most of the time, just to get done. I only stopped swimming 2-3 times the entire time. It took me a bit to slow down, and round the bouy, but I did alright. I got out of the water, and there were people behind me!! What would you do differently?: I could have thrown in some freestyle, and been a little more agressive...but I was not racing, I just wanted to finish :) My swim goal was 15 minutes, so to finish in 10:38 was amazing. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not a fancy triathlete, so I biked in my swimshorts....bad idea. For reasons that....shouldn't be shared. It cut down on my T1 time, but I should try something different next year. What would you do differently?: Dry off a little more thoroughly. Bike
Comments: I thought I did pretty good on the bike portion. I have NEVER ridden 16 miles before, and that was probably a mistake. I should have ridden a couple 16 milers leading up to the race. My bike computer says I went 16.5 miles, and my average was up over 12 mph so I'm pretty happy with that. Looking at the results, and seeing that I only beat 3 people on the bike part kind of hurt my feelings. I have done over 400 miles this summer, I should have been faster. What would you do differently?: More longer rides. Get used to pushing myself more than 10 miles instead of throwing a sporadic 8-9 miles in here and there. Oh, I also made a major mistake. I didn't have a water bottle. I was kind of surprised that there wasn't a water stop on the bike portion because whitewater had 2-3. I even stopped at the ambulance and they told me they didn't have water...WTF. My bike goal was 1:30, and I finished in 1:22:47...so another victory. Transition 2
Comments: I don't even remember t2 Run
Comments: I really should have attempted to run a little more than I did. I walked the majority of it with the exception of about 25 feet. I think I was so happy that I beat the goals I had on the swim and the bike so I got complacent. I lollygagged through the airport until Jessie caught up to me and started talking with her. She made me walk a little faster, and when she started to run down the hill, I couldn't make myself run. What would you do differently?: More running attempts. In all honesty, I ran ONCE leading up to the race. I did a 5k in about 47 minutes 3 weeks ago...so to be at 51:38 after 16 miles of biking, I'm pretty happy with that. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed the post race meal.... a cold burger, cheetos, and coke? seriously? we are triathles here....maybe the elite people ate all the healthy stuff. Event comments: Was really surprised that there was no water station on the bike..but I'm told thats normal. Things seemed a little hectic pre-race but they always are. Woke up around 5:30 and left the house by 6. Should have got to the event alot sooner than I did. I totally was not ready. I had no plan/clue of how to find Tracy with my bike, and luckily found her. By the time I got there, there was hardly any place to set up the bike. I figured I would get there and get everything figured out, and watch a couple of waves go out....HELL no. Race started at 8am, and I went out at 8:04am.
Met AmyJo, and Tracy from BT :)
After registration and finding my bike, I had maybe 15 minutes before my wave went off. I got in the water and got acclimated to the brrness of the water.
