Swim
Comments: Good swim. Actually one of the most crowded in a while on the start since the first buoy was a hard left only about 50 meters away, so everyone lined up on the same side. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Felt great. Transition 1
Comments: Includes the run up the hill from the swim start so it looks slow, but I would rather this and have the actual out of water time for the swim. Kept a good jog up the hill to calm down a bit. Good position at the far end of transition allowed for little running time with the bike. What would you do differently?: Make sure to go around the cones the right way the first time. Almost missed going over the mat since it only covered half of the exit. Only lost about 1 second, so not bad overall. Bike
Comments: Pleased overall. What would you do differently?: Kept feeling like I could push harder, but I just couldn't force myself to do it. Mental block with the speed I was able to hold. I think my mind thought "over 23, you must be going to fast, no need to pick it up". I need to get over that and just hammer it until there is only enough left to finish 3.06 miles on the run and then do the last .04 on pure pain. Transition 2
Comments: One of my fastest T2s. Everything clicked. What would you do differently?: Would like to learn to run 10Ks and shorter without socks. I could probably save about 10 seconds here. Run
Comments: Apparently my run needs work if I want to place better going forward. 1st out of the water, 2nd off the bike, and 6th on the run. Hmmmm...wonder where the race went awry. Not a slow pace for me by any means, I just need to be down in the 6:00s to be more competitive. What would you do differently?: Not much. Pushed the body about as hard as I could. I actually watched the guy who got 1st in my AG pass me, saw the 27 on his leg, and couldn't do a darn thing about it. There was only enough juice left to get myself to the finish line, much less try to keep up with his 6:20 something pace. Post race
Warm down: Walked around...chatted with the other guys who finished around me. It was pretty cool since we were the first wave and the first ones in our AGs, so it made me feel good to be up there with "those guys". :) It was weird to be finished that early. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Just need to continue to train and improve. Event comments: Good race overall. Normal Jim Rainey race. Well organized, pretty much on time, just a little slow pulling it together at the end. Awards took FOREVER! I guess I can't complain since I was actually there for the awards for once. :) I was a little disappointed that not all of the finisher medals were the same. Looked like some of the folks received medals with a swimmer, biker, and runner whereas others only had a biker. Sort of odd, but he did promise to mail folks medals if they didn't receive one. Got up. Ate waffle with PB&H. Normal breakfast. Had cup of coffee. Bleech. Hampton Inn coffee; not what I am used to at home, but it did its job. :) Set up transition. Helped Heather's sister a little since this was her first. (she did great BTW)
Jumped in the water. Took care of pre-race business :) Swam out to the first buoy and back. Practiced a couple of accelerations since the waves were pretty big for the guys, so I knew I needed to bust it out in the first 50 to get my lead.
