Swim
Comments: OMG, how freakin' slow was I? I don't know why this is, usually I pull in a 1:50-ish per 100. This was a pretty pathetic effort. I can't say those recent articles on the swim deaths in tris weren't on my mind, but I don't think I held back all that much. I was a little disappointed when I saw my swim time, but at least that'll motivate me to do some more speed training in the pool. Yipes. The good thing is I was not panicky at the start, which I had struggled with on my Half Iron (which, granted, was a little more intimidating than a sprint, but still...). So I think I'm going to keep incorporating jogs in my warm up because it seems to get the jitters out very effectively. What would you do differently?: I dunno. Push harder maybe? I would definitely try to do a little more drafting, as I've definitely done better in the past on that. Transition 1
Comments: Paused a few seconds at the start line to get my feet clipped in. Otherwise, good transition. What would you do differently?: Um...go faster? :) Bike
Comments: I went from hard to comfortable to hard with race pace. The flats (when there were a few) had a baby headwind going on, which was frustrating. But the hills were actually a lot of fun and I stayed with my butt in the saddle the whole time. Rock on. What would you do differently?: I think I need to focus a little more, because when I thought about it, I pushed. And when I sort of let my mind wander, my pace dipped a tad. Also need to get some more confidence when doing turns, because I'm terrified I'm going to topple over for some reason, so I slow down considerably to make the turns. Is that lame? Transition 2
Comments: Fine and dandy T2. I'm not sure how to make this transition any faster. Run
Comments: Good hard run and I pushed as much as I could. I always feel good on the run. That's my favorite of all the tri sports, so I honestly enjoy it when that part of the race comes along. It ended up that my 5th place finish in the age group got me 3rd place because the first two ladies won in the OA cat! Woohoo! I've never actually placed in a race before. That was pretty thrilling! What would you do differently?: Nada. Post race
Warm down: Stretching a little, had a sammich, some gummy fruit things they were giving out and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: More training in the pool is definitely called for. And more training on hills, though I feel I'm getting there. Event comments: A good race, beautiful course. Minimal goodie bag and amenities/food--sort of the bare minimum you could get away with on a race, but still a fun time. And the race T-shirt's nice. :) Last updated: 2008-07-23 12:00 AM

My pre-race routine was driving. Ugh. Up at 4:30, got to the race site around 7 with only 15 minutes to get my race packet and head to transition.
Stretched, inhaled some Albuterol and ran to the start line to get rid of the jitters. That helped.
