Pre-race routine:

My routine was thrown off by having to schlepp all my gear 1.3 miles up hill to T1. Otherwise it was unchanged.
Swim
  • 21m 1s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 06s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was probably shorter than advertised, either that or mys swim speed has improved. Elaine is going with improved swim speed, so I guess I'll concur.
What would you do differently?:

I need to stop hanging back so much, I always feel like I'm saving myself for the bike.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

As always had a brief ugly battle with my wetsuit. I did prevail, but it took some doing. The sand everywhere from the beach was especially helpful. I also heard there was a naked guy in transition. I missed that.
What would you do differently?:

Use intimidation to gain psychological edge over wetsuit prior to putting it on. Once it's on it gets all full of attitude.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 14s
  • 7.5 miles
  • 5.28 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the second worse mountain bike trail (and I use that word with great caution) I have ever been on (the 25 mile death hike at the whiskey road mountain bike still ranks number one, if only for its length of misery. ) Usually climbing means there will be great descending, but the descents had no traction and too many cross-sections so you couldn't just let the bike roll.
What would you do differently?:

Choose a different race. As much as I love hill repeats, I need to start doing them.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No problems in transition. felt very last.

Comments:

Ghastly miserable. I paid money for this.

Event comments:

Poorly organized. They didn't know until the day before that part of their bike trail was unrideable (Conrad Stoltz had to tell them this). Were still setting buoys 30 minutes before race time. Conflicting instructions on which direction to go around the buoys. No pre race meeting. Late start due to cofusion about where to go in the swim. No bodymarked ages on calves. No food or even Gatorade post race. The volunteers were nice.

Course: Everest. If someone designed a race course on Mt Everest this is what it would look like. I walked (Trudged) the uphills and the walked (skiid) the downhills. For a brief sevond there was only a modest grade. I ran that. It sucked.
