Pre-race routine:

Woke up @ 4:30. Took a shower and had a clif bar & a donut. Had some coffee on the way to the race. We got to the transition area right after it opened. We had plenty of time to set up & get ready.
Event warmup:

Short swim just to get acclimated
Swim
  • 12m 14s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

I could not get into my rythm on the swim. I never caught my lungs and felt like I was expending too much energy.
What would you do differently?:

Practice OWS and to get into my rythm quicker.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Transition was good overall.
Bike
  • 42m 52s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 19.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed the bike course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

T2 was good. I had practiced the day before and it paid off. Coming into transition there was a pileup of people walking their bikes into transition and I came flying off my bike into a run and was almost pushing people out of the way to get by.
Run
  • 28m 40s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I need to step up my run game. My knee hurt pretty good but that's ok. When I get better I'm going to run 2x as hard. I sprinted the last 1/4 mile to the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a cold towel for my neck and doused myself with a cold bottle of water. Then I headed to cheer my dad on. After we both made it through we headed for the beer stand.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My knee and the fact that we hit a hill course yesterday on the bike. I could feel it today and it took out that little extra in my tank.

Event comments:

The only thing that would have made the race better would be not having the heat. The whole event was pretty much clearing out before noon, it was just too damn hot. There was not alot of shade for the post-race and the sun was just beating us down.

Course: The course was fast with some rolling hills. The hills were not bad. I saw more flat tires, chain problems, people puking x2 etc.. I caught alot of people on the hills. It's easier for me to just push through the pain on the hills.
