Swim
Comments: Did the entire thing freestyle which is a first for me. I stopped a few times to site, but other than proceeded on at my turtle like pace. Got kicked a few times, but even that did not phase me. Making progress....this was the bright spot in my race. What would you do differently?: Learn to sight without stopping. Just get more experience. Transition 1
Comments: Slightly better than the last sprint, but still had trouble getting my wetsuit off. Also my MTB shoes are beginning to be a time suck. Next year all velcro. What would you do differently?: Need to learn to run faster out of the water and get my wetsuit off without sitting down. Bike
Comments: Got out of transition pretty well, passed a lot of people especially since I was in the second to last wave. Worked the few hills well and cadence was exactly where I wanted to be. What would you do differently?: Bike more so that 90+ cadence translates into more speed. My husband suggested getting a tri bike versus road bike, but I dunno. Transition 2
Comments: Better than the last sprint, but still slow. Got my shoes off no problem and put on my running shoes without sitting down so where did the time go? What would you do differently?: Practice. Run
Comments: I didn't even bother to check my watch just kept moving. My lower calves were tired and tight and after a higher HR on the bike, I was just hanging on. This is the most disappointing part of the race since running is normally my strength. What would you do differently?: Need to practice more intense bricks off the bike. Post race
Warm down: Water and walked around. Talked to a few people I knew and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. Event comments: This is a very well run race. The lake is weed free, the course is well marked and the volunteers were helpful. The only negative is the cross country run, but even with that I highly recommend it. Up at 4am for coffee, ate some toast 45 mins later, stretched and out the door by 5:15am.
Lots of time in the water to get comfortable with the course. By the second time out there, things felt pretty good.
