Swim
Comments: What a horrible swim. I wanted to start on the outside, but it was way too crowded so I moved to the far inside. I tried to sprint out and just could not get any space. I go pushed and redirected more times than I can count. I went out too fast and never got into any rhythm whatsoever. My spotting was bad because my wave had orange caps...the bouys were orange, and they were small and round so I had a hard time seeing the bouys and distinguishing them from swim caps. Al;so, the sun was right in my eyes going out. I think I slowed so much in sighting that I was nearly verticle in the water a couple of times. This swim was a full minute to a minute and a half slower than what I had wanted. Just a poor effort all around. What would you do differently?: Start slower with stronger strokes and get into a rhythm. Try to start in the back and pass or the outside. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition time. Socks and shoes on quick and out to the start. The bike mount was poor becuase I couldn't get clipped in and my foot kept slipping. Bike
Comments: I really need to learn to check my equipment. Turns out I had trouble getting on the bike because my seat was jacked up way too high. I took the bike to Jack and Adams after Vineman for a safety check and they put the seat back on too high. I had not ridden it since then. Big mistake. This cost me serious time and comfort. I could reach the peddles in full stroke but I was on my toes the whole time. I had a hard time getting comfortable and I was grateful the ride was only 14 miles. What would you do differently?: Check my gear before the race. My average speed was 1.3 mph slower than CapTex which was a longer ride. Had I been positioned correctly, I should have been able to average at or just over 22mph. Transition 2
Comments: Pay attention to the guy in front at the dismount line. I turned my head to see Robin as she yelled for me. I looked forward and I was still moving but the guy in front of me was not. Almost had a crash, but I was able to catch myself without a collision. My switch to running gear was good. Grabbed a quick drink from my transition bottle and hit the road. What would you do differently?: pay attention. Run
Comments: Good run. A slight cramp as I started out, but I ran through it. I definitely felt I was red-lining it the whole way. There were a number of times where I wanted to slow down but I refused to let myself do it. I felt the heat, but it wasn't too bad. Poured water on my neck at the aid stations to cool. I had hoped to run 7s. Perhaps the problems on the bike slowed me a few seconds. Still, 7:15s are pretty good. What would you do differently?: I pretty much gave the run everything I had. I might have been able squeeze a few more seconds out of it by picking up the pace a bit earlier, but I was going pretty har the whole way. Post race
Warm down: Found Robin and Jake, grabbed a bottle of water, a cold wet towel and some shade. What limited your ability to perform faster: bike seat height. Event comments: Good race overall. I am very happy with my 14th in age group finish. I'm working on cracking the top 10% and then the actual top 10. Last updated: 2008-08-04 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:05 because I need to leave the house at 5:45 to get to the start a little after 6:30. Transition closed at 7:30 so that would give me time to set up, use the bathroom, and get ready to go.
Showered and had coffee at the house. Brought coffee with me and a water bottle with 2 scoops of Perpetuem. Couldn't quite handle that so I only drank half. I had a Stinger as I left transition as fuel for the race. Only a sprint so I didn't need much.
A little stretching and a wait in line for the port-o-can ... basically the same as all the races.
