Pre-race routine:

Got the race about an hour before start time. I'm so used to getting setup quick i didn't know what to do with myself. Talked to a first-timer racked next to me about the course and transistion setup. Hope it helped her.
Event warmup:

Took two nice easy warmup laps to bouy and back. did some running in place on the beach. A little stretching & loosening up.
Swim
  • 09m 35s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very tired going into the race. i think the heat had a lot to do with it - it's been hot and muggy all week. I could have used more sleep this past week as well. My hammys and back just felt tired.
What would you do differently?:

more rest prior to race.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Getting better.
What would you do differently?:

With the equipment i have (tie shoes for both bike & run) i think i'm doing pretty well. I've got it down.
Bike
  • 32m 29s
  • 5 miles
  • 9.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Only got passed by 2 women on the bike (from the wave behind me). More would pass me on the run. About half way thru, just as i was starting to get a good rhythm going, my chain wouldn't turn. I got off to find out my rear derailer was bent ! Must have it a rock or root. flipped the bike bent it back, to the chain turning and headed back out. probably lost about a minute total. First bike repair during a race. I was pretty proud !
What would you do differently?:

It was a struggle the first mile or two. Finally got my cadence at a good pace, found a good gear and got my HR under control.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Probably my best T2 yet.
Run
  • 30m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I wanted to stop and walk so many times but instead just slowed down a little. I was finally able to get my breathing under control and eventually could pick the pace up.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare better. I need to train smarter. Some hills for sure. Some harder shorter efforts. I need some help i think.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank WATER !! GatorADE !! Ate Italian Ice !! I was really overheated. Took an ICE COLD SHOWER (only cold water was available - but it felt great) After i got out, i went back in for a second one because i started to heat back up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fatigue. The Heat.

Event comments:

This was the last of the 10 series WT Off Road Tri's. Great cookout with raffle prizes and prizes for the season winners for age groups. This is such a great series of events. Awesome Staff - they bring out great people. I'm sad it's over and so looking forward to next year !!

Thanks WINDING TRAILS for another great season !!!!
