Swim
Comments: Well blah swim for me. I was very cold standing on the beach waiting to go in. My arms were tight and just not functioning like I wanted. But thats ok, what can you do, everyone else had to stand out there to! Oh, should have brought my wetsuit even though it was a sprint. That would have kept me warm :) I believe this is proof that either a) Im more of a steady distance swimmer, or b) most sprint courses are long for some reason. I always have my slowest swim times in the shorter races :) Once I get in a groove, were done! What would you do differently?: More speedwork next year. I did improve this year, but Ive got to be able to go from the word go in the sprints. All my work this year was geared towards faster steady long. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1 finally!!!! The time was longer, but over all the women, it was one of the faster times. What would you do differently?: I can finally say... nothing!! Goggles and cap thrown down, helmet on, off I go, shoes already on bike. Bike
Comments: Good bike split for me. Could have been over 21 I think, but the course was wet, and crowded again. They did a better job with traffic this year, but still have some improvements to make. I got stuck behind a car or two, and then slower bikers that I couldnt get through/around car at the same time. The "coned lane" they put up for us at the bad points were not big enough and had us on the pothole/cracked foot of the road, and did not really allow for passing other bikers. I ended up kind of hanging with a girl for about 3/4's of the race. She would pass me, I would pass her, thats how it went the WHOLE time. Sometimes I like when it goes like that, sometimes I dont. I didnt like it too much today because I think I ended up not pushing as much as I could have over the last 3 miles because I just kind of let her carry the pace in through the "iffy" section of the course since it was a little too risky to play the leapfrog game again through that section. Overall, Im happy with the bike!!! And I think they will do a little more again next year as far as the bike course goes, to make it a bit more safe. Transition 2
Comments: NOt a bad T2 either!! yay!! I had trouble getting my shoes on because my hands were froze and fumbled a bit, but Im getting faster at these things!! Run
Comments: I wanted to just go until I couldnt on the run. I havent really done sprint racing in a couple of years (i did this particular one last year and that was it), so I just decided to just go with the "go go go!" strategy. I had a few in front of me starting the run, the 40+ crowd started about 5 minutes before us, so I started the picking off. Picked off maybe 3-5 more women and that got me to the third place finish. This run didnt feel really good. My feet and hands were cold, and around 1.5 miles, finally one by one my toes started to get feeling and that felt weird :) By mile 2, I was mostly thawed and in a groove finally so just carried it to the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing... I wasnt sure what my pace was because all I found was mile marker 1, and didnt have my Garmin on. I pushed it like I wanted and came in under 7:15's like I wanted. Post race
Event comments: I got all my splits this race!!! Thats a improvement :) I still think this is a good race, and a good venue for the championship. The only sticking point is the first 3-3.5 miles on that bike course!!! If they can figure that out, I hope they keep this venue. Also, I have to say I was very happy for my Dad!!! I mainly did this race again this year to do it with him. This was his first race ever last year, and he wanted to come back and see how much he improved. I would say that over 20 minutes off your time from last year is a NICE BIG IMPROVEMENT!!! :) Last updated: 2008-08-06 12:00 AM
