Swim
Comments: the swim seemed to go alright, i was a little disapointed because i really wanted to find some feet to draft off of, but i have an incredibly hard time drafting off of people -- it just seems like i can't swim straight enough or i can't find someone who is just a little bit faster then me. . something to work on for next season. once i get my swim in gear -- aka swim a lot faster, i think i will do even better at races, since swim is definitly my weak point. i was something like 39th place in the swim, and like 10-20 on the bike/run. . so that is what i will do this winter, i guess! What would you do differently?: Learn to swim fast! learn to draft and swim straight :) Transition 1
Comments: went well, the transition area was really crowded w/bikes, too many people for the space. i had to pick my bike up and lift over some back wheels because there was only about 1.5-2 feet imbetween two back wheels. . also, my Transition spot was kinda far from the bike exit. What would you do differently?: get some tri shoes:) i got into my bike pedals pretty well, but i could get better at this as well. Bike
Comments: the bike was a little weird, i thought i was just dieing on the way out, but it turned out that there was a headwind on the way out, so that made me feel a little better at the turn around. i think it may have been a shorter course though, i sure don't think i rode that fast! then again, i've been known to always think the course is short because i doubt my speeds :) one good sized hill and some rollers and such. . What would you do differently?: i haven't ridden much this month, so i felt a little weak, especially up the hills. . i think i could have ran faster if i'd had the oppurtunity to put in my typical mileage in august. Transition 2
Comments: i went to the wrong side of the rack, but since i was right by the end, it wasn't a big deal. other then that, seemed to go smoothly. What would you do differently?: pre-race, make sure i walk the path i will take from the swim to T1, and from the bike to T2 Run
Comments: i realized that dumping water on my head is like heaven on the run, it is a life saver! i picked up 2 cups at each aid station (2 per lap, not enough in my opinion), and drank some and dumped the rest on my head. . i felt much better after that. i was shooting for a 40 min 10K or so, but that just wasn't going to happen. i went out first lap hard, but a little conserved and upped it the 2nd lap and went as hard as i could into the finish What would you do differently?: run more :) maybe a fuelbelt? Post race
Warm down: walked a little bit, found some water and drank about 5 cups. . poured some more on my head and stretched and ate some food. What limited your ability to perform faster: i expected more of a jump from a couple weeks ago, but i guess that i shouln't since i really only got in a few workouts since my last race. i feel pretty good about it, but i have this problem where i want to do a PR split every race, for each event :) i know that isn't realistic, but non the less. . so more training and more specific over the rest of the year, and next year i should crush it! Event comments: started a little bit late, (5 mins), but other then that, it was smooth. fun race! Last updated: 2008-08-07 12:00 AM

woke up at 3:45, left by 3:55, and drove to st. paul (2.5 hrs). arrived at the park at about 6:20 or so, and grabbed my bike and bag and made my way to transition and packet pickup. Ate 1.5 bagels, drank a starbucks lite espresso thing from the gas station and about 1 nalgene of water
jogged for about 5 mins, then swam about 100-200 yards about 10 mins before the start.
