Overall Rank = 147/521
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 29/51
Pre-race routine:

Started with normal breakfast of Bowl of Cheerios with banana. Getting better at setting up transition area, one issue I had was my bike frame was too big to hook the bar via the seat so I had to hook the break levers over the bar.
Event warmup:

Didn't do any running or biking before hand (probably should have), but did about 10 minutes of swimming and had 1 hammer gel pack.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started too quickly, tired my arms out before the 1st turn. Once I slowed my stroke down I started passing people. Had one bad breath where I drank the lake. Was too close to the 1st buoy and had to slow way down amongst all the people to make the turn.
What would you do differently?:

Next race I'm starting nearer the front of the crowd, let them pass me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

forgot to preset gears to be in lower gear. Had a hard time getting the wetsuit off. also was a confusing maze like transition area and had to focus myself on where to go.
What would you do differently?:

Preset bike gears.
Bike
  • 42m 26s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 19.51 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought I did this one well. The big hill was tough, but I tried to keep my heart rate down and focused on the rest of the course. Had one issue taking the turn off of 202 and almost running into the sweeper.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Had to take extra time for racking on handlebars instead of seat.
What would you do differently?:

Need to load shorts with gel before swim not as part of T2.
Run
  • 37m 36s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 08m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Started the run and immediately both calfs cramped up. Had to slow down to a walk until they felt better. Need to train more on rolling hills. Knees felt fine.
What would you do differently?:

No cramping. Work harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Did some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat, fighting a pulled quad for 2 weeks before.

Event comments:

For the number of racers the park is fairly small and there wasn't much room afterwards for mingling.
