Swim
Comments: Excellent, Excellent Swim. I was very happy coming out of the water. I positioned myself in the front at the start knowing swimming is my strength. The first 75 to 100 yards was all weeds. It was gross. You were stroking and just pulling weeds with your arms and hands. At one point I thought my chip was going to be pulled off my leg as weeds were just wrapping around me. Finally pulled though the weeds and rounded the first bouy with one person infront of me. Continued on and was the second female out of the water. According to the official results, I was the first out of the water. According to my family, there was one female infront of me. Either way, I was thrilled with my time of 9:27.. That was smoking!! What would you do differently?: The swim was great. There is nothing I could change about that. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was good and things went smoothly. Had a little trouble getting my helmet locked on. Everything else went smooth. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I got passed by a few biking "machines" and couldn't help but just be in awe of those bikes. WOW!! The course was open and traffic was not very considerate of the bikers IMO What would you do differently?: While I worked hard on the bike, I could have worked harder.I found myself daydreaming at times and not working as hard as I could have. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went well. Quickly dropped off the bike, helmet, gloves and sunglasses, grabbed the IPOD Nano and took off. What would you do differently?: Get rid of the the Nano. My shuffle (which I love) died the night before, it will not stay charged. I had to download to the Nano and use an arm strap. I was trying to attach the strap to my arm while running.. That does not work very well. Next time I just need to take the time and attach things correctly or get rid of the silly thing. It ended up falling to the ground, but I recovered. Run
Comments: The Transition on your body from T2 to run remains the most challenging for me. It just hurts. It takes a good mile until your legs finally feel like you can control them. I had to stop once quickly after starting just to try to regain and control my breathing. I am not used to running on uneven surfaces and probably need to work on that. All I kept thinking for the first 1/4 mile was "please do not sprain your ankle, please do not sprain your ankle." The rest of the run, or jog was good. I hate running and find it the most challenging for all the disciplines. I am glad I finished the run with out stopping or walking other than the one time. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on running and run on some uneven surfaces so it is not so surprising. Post race
Warm down: With the finish line ahead, I attempted to sprint ( or jog faster) and was thrilled to be across the line for my second triathlon. I did nothing to warm down and I am paying for that today. Very sore!! Hopefully spin class tonight will work that out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running training. Need to focus more on the things I don't like, like the running rather than swimming and biking all the time. Event comments: Well organized race. Thought they should have had more lifeguards out on the water. I counted only 3 and they did not seem to thrilled to be there. The bike course was well marked and the volunteers helped stop traffic, etc. The run course was also well marked. Last updated: 2008-08-11 12:00 AM

Packed up all of the equipment the night before. Woke up at 5:15 AM, got the family and kids up and left the house by 6 AM to head over to Sleepy Hollow. It was only a 20 minute drive from Lansing and there was no traffic so things went nice and smooth. Luckily the kids, ages 6 and 5 fell back asleep in the car.
Got to the site, parking was easy and got registered. Thought it was wierd that they asked for ID at check in. Kinda a problem since I didn't bring my ID or anything with me. After they finally believed who I said I was I got my chip, T-shirt and headed back to the car to get my gear.
Get back to the car, the 5 year old is puking everywhere... time to put my mom hat back on... Take care of her, get her settled down and situated. The 6 year old wants to take my bike to transition for me although the bike is so much bigger than her. She got to carry mom's helmet.
Get to transition and quickly got things set up. Helmet out and ready, sun glasses, shoes open, socks ready. I also usually have some water on hand for my feet just to get the sand off, etc.
Did a little stretching before the race, but did not get into the water. The air was so cold that I was just doing my best to keep warm knowing the water would be much warmer than the air. Waited anxiously for the Olympic Men and Women to start so we could get ready for the sprint.
