Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of two pieces of whole grain toast with peanut butter and jelly. In retrospect, I need to stick with the waffles as this bread is VERY leaded and I felt it later. Not much of any discomfort but I need to go back to Kashi waffles. Kara and I met some of our Luke's Get With It runners to carpool/caravan to the race.
Event warmup:

Jogging, stretching with the Luke's group. Dynamic warm up.

Comments:

The beginning of the race was tough as I was weaving through the mass of humanity. However, it was nice because I had to focus on not hitting iPod zombie-fied runners who had no clue of their surroundings. It also masked the fact I was running faster than I thought. I set a goal of under an hour because this is my first crack at a 10K distance in I don't know how long. I encountered some slight GI distress around mile three but nothing to slow me down. Both feet received blisters the size of Rhode Island around mile 4. Again, nothing to slow me down. My secondary goal was to run a negative split. Looks like I nailed both goals, much to my surprise. An unexpectedly terrific run.
What would you do differently?:

I would eat a different breakfast.
Post race
Warm down:

My warm-down consisted of hanging around the finish line so I could photograph members of the Plano Get With It group. Some of them had never run that far before I wanted to capture that moment. I then ate a cookie and an ice cream sandwich.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I felt gassed by the end and was outkicked by a couple of folks, but I had worked my ass off to catch up to all these people so I was pleased with my kick. The blisters were a distraction but I don't think they slowed me down. Really, the only thing that I could say slowed my speed was having to weave through the mass of humanity over first three miles.

Event comments:

This was a terrific race. It is well run, well staffed, and tons of fun. The course was new and challenging.
