Run
Comments: Our team goal was to break 25 hours and we did that averaging right at 7:30 per mile. I had the third hardest series of legs but had a blast running the legs. Logistically our run was perfect; never missing a handoff do to an inability to meet the runner at the timestations. When I took the baton at time station 31 there were over 30 runners there waiting for their vans to show up with a replacement runner. Using Nuvi's in both vans to find alternative routes to the runner exchanges was brilliant; we never had a problem. We beat the other Garmin team by over 5 hours and the third team by 6. We had some real studs on our team. One guy was consistently doing 5 minute miles. My best mile was a 7:10. Our first runner, Amy, blew away her 15 member start group. In fact she caught the next group despite giving them a 15 minute start. All of us ran our best. What would you do differently?: I'd like to try it with a 6 runner team. Down time in the van was way too long and legs really stiffened up. Dehydration for some of the runners was a real problem but I drank 2 bottles of Pedialyte during the event and never had a problm. Post race
Warm down: Couple of Belgain Bud Lites. What limited your ability to perform faster: Too much down time between runs Event comments: One runner was struck by a car that then slammed into a tree. Both runner and driver were 20 year old females and were in serious condition when we left Portland. This was a downer; our runner passed the scene shortly after it happened. Our team was a nice blend of recreational and serious runners. Amy, our leadout, has only been running for 7 months after 15 years of smoking. She did incredibly well.
