Pre-race routine:

Woke up, ate toast. My brother Chad picked me up at 5:30 and we were there in 15 minutes. First time for us so we walked around and tried to figure it all out. Everyone was very nice/cool.
Event warmup:

Jogged around a bit in the parking lot.
Swim
  • 09m
  • 383 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was pretty bad. I trained for this in the pool pretty much, but when the event started, I could not set a pace. Breathing was all over the place and had to breast stroke more than once to catch my breath. I looked pretty bad
What would you do differently?:

More Training, start slower, calm down.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Newbee. Thought I did okay on T1 for first time ever.
What would you do differently?:

uh, be faster
Bike
  • 45m 40s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 16.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Had some road tires on a full suspension Iron Horse Trail bike. Fun ride.
What would you do differently?:

Need to bite the bullet and get a road bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

started to jump off bike a little early, but can't blame any loss of time on that. Volunteers were very helpful and encouraging
What would you do differently?:

I don't know
Run
  • 28m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I "kept too much in the tank". I kept worrying about having to walk or not finishing. When I got to about 2.5 miles, I realized I was almost done and had WAY too much energy left. I kicked it in then and sprinted the last 1/4 mile, but as you can see from my time, that did not help out much.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start increasing my pace after the jello legs go away around .5 miles in.
Post race
Warm down:

ate a banane and kicked rocks....had to go

What limited your ability to perform faster:

rookie run. I will get better. Y'all watch out for BornOldMan.

Event comments:

I have nothing to compare it to, but everyone was very nice, helpful, and I had a blast. Looking forward to it next year.
