![]() Swim
Comments: First Triathlon swim ever! Also first time sharing a lane with anyone else. I try to swim at least three times weekly but have never had to share a lane. Seldom any other swimmers in the pool. I had sent in a time of 4:01 projected. So a 3:44 is a little below what I had expected. I have been swimming in a 25 yard pool since starting swimming in late June. I couldn't swim a lap at first so I consider this great progress! What would you do differently?: Swim a warmup. Kept thinking about it but seemed the lanes were crowded enough without me lumbering through them. I also need to work on flip turns or at least some way to keep from killing so much momentum at the ends of the pool. I would touch and take off without pushing off. Also, try to swim with others if possible. Got a whiff of a foot a couple inches from my face that made me just about stand up in the pool. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I had practiced the entire length of this mini-tri the week before with transitions set up and all. My lay out worked well, although it seemed I was in transition forever. I hit my split button when I left the pool ladder and when I mounted my bike since the sponsers did not have data to give us. What would you do differently?: Need to get clipless shoes. I have been ordered a pair and they are waiting for me at the LBS, but I did not try anything radically new for this event. Question: There was a line that had "Mount" on one side and "Dismount" on the other. At what point was I supposed to be on the bike? I supposed I was to run past the line leaving T1 and then mount after crossing the line, but was not sure. ![]() Bike
What would you do differently?: A few hundred meters into the bike portion, I look down and see that my cyclocomputer is not reading. I reach down to try and see what the problem was and it flies off, bouncing a couple several times behind me. I had to turn around and find it and remount. It never did work during the ride. Before the race, I had reset but forgot to spin the front tire too make sure it was reading fine. I had did this previously during my practice race but forgot when it mattered. Thus, I have no way of knowing what type of MPH I accomplished. I also heard the course is less than advertised. If the course is 8.5 miles I believe I avg. around 18 mph. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Missed out on the run, since race was cancelled after my bike segment. While we were packing things up 30 min. later the sun comes out! ![]() Run

Warm down: none What limited your ability to perform faster: weather, short amount of training time. Event comments: I decided to take up triathlon training a few months ago on the advice of a friend who races. I ran a few 5K's around 10 years ago, but like many, college,a job, marriage, a kid, and other things helped me put on too many pounds. I started swimming, walking, and cycling in june at 232 pounds. On race day in Aug. weighed in at 210. No one's fault about the crummy weather but now I have to wait until Oct. 25 for my next tri at becomming a triathlete. Should I consider myself 2/3 of one now? Cliff bar at 5:00 Am then drove over for the event. Got there in plenty of time. Found a decent spot for the bike and layed out everything. Took a cliff mocha gel with caffiene about 20 min. before my swim.
None, just stretched for 5 to 10 min.
