Run
Comments: the run went well. I had missed my last long run and was nervous about that. The weather was ideal. I thought 3:30 might be doable. I started off well, was 2 min ahead at the halfway point,2:40 ahead at the 20 mile mark, and I thouhgt I had it. I started slowing down a bit, but at 23 I still had 50 sec. Mile 25 was along slow uphill that killed me. The last 10 yards I stopped to wwalk because i certainly wasn't moving very fast anyway. I got to the top and as soon as I started runing my left hamstring started cramping. I stopped and stretched it out for 15 sec or so, but only made it 100 yards before I had to stop nad stretch again. From there on out, I felt good ,finisihed the last 1/2 mile pretty strong, but that one 3/4 mile segment killed me. Starting mile 26, I needed to run the last 1.2 in 8:45, to get 3:30. I should have been under 3:31, 3:31:30 at the worst. What would you do differently?: Not walk up the lat hill, drink a little bit more, but overall, a pretty good run, not great. Still less than a minute from a PR, and not a lot of training the last month. Post race
Warm down: walked around with Nancy and the girls, ate some pizza, and drove back to hotel What limited your ability to perform faster: damn cramps Event comments: This was a nice small race. Expo was fine, nothing fancy. The shirt was very nice, I liked having the option to upgrade to a tech shirt. There were plenty of volunteers, lots of aid stations, but hte post race spread sucked. Runners were limited to either 1 piece of pizza or a hot dog or a burger. There were no bottles of water or coke or gatorade, but there were lots of people handing out cups of water.
