Swim
Comments: Everyone was in good spirits and joking around at the start line. Too many serious faces can kind of bring down the mood. The morning air was very chilly, but the water was nice. Especially with the wetsuit it was very comfortable. This was my first time to wear a wetsuit in the water, and I was happy with the extra buoyancy. Everyone spread out fairly quickly, so I didn't have to worry so much about getting kicked in the face or anything. It was actually a very relaxing way to start the day. What would you do differently?: Swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich waiting for me, so I snagged a couple bites before heading out. Good call on bringing food that isn't in gel form. Right after I got on the bike, a piece of trash got stuck in my front brake and I had to get off and fish it out. Suck, but what can you do? What would you do differently?: I could've gone faster, but I wanted to relax a little before getting on the bike. Bike
Comments: I started off going way too fast. Like I was doing a sprint distance or something. I kept telling myself to slow down and pace myself, but I kept picking people out to pass, and taking them. Only one person passed me the entire ride, but it was only about 5 minutes before I passed him and left him behind. I love passing people who's rear wheel costs more than my entire bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I was pretty happy with the whole thing. Transition 2
Comments: Back to my sandwich, the thing I had been thinking about the whole ride- I had not closed the ziploc bag very good, so it was covered in ants. I didn't care. I blew as many off as I could, and the rest helped to fuel my run. Tasty! What would you do differently?: Close the bag, and maybe bring two sandwiches next time. Run
Comments: Painful. There were alot of long, gradual hills that sapped my energy. My mood kept getting crappy, and I kept telling myself to walk. An internal voice snapped and said "because you keep complaining, you're not going to stop until you get to the end." So I just kept on going. It was a good test, both mentally and physically. What would you do differently?: Try to run faster. Post race
Warm down: Walk around and keep moving so I don't pass out. PIZZA!!! Event comments: I had a blast. Last updated: 2008-09-01 12:00 AM

Got up early, had some coffee, but I was really nervous so no breakfast. Packed up the car and headed out. Got to the site and set up my stuff.
It was pretty chilly in the morning, so I stayed under a blanket as long as I could. About 10 mins before transition closing, I got into my wetsuit and headed to the lake.
