Swim
Comments: One comment about race - the "swim out" chute was this big blowup arch. Two problems - it was black (very hard to see), and by the time my wave (last) came through it had started collapsing. We had to crawl through and I went into T1 with "sand hands". Comment about me - I think I trained 5 times for the swim all year. Just never inserted it into the schedule, so just relied on my previous swimming experience. What would you do differently?: Train the swim more. Transition 1
Comments: Most of transition area was grass, so put shoes on before grabbing bike. I've gotten to wear I can slip into the shoes while buckling the helmet, so that went pretty smooth. Sockless is the way to go. What would you do differently?: Not much...went pretty well. Bike
Comments: Just wanted to have a really good ride, and felt I navigated well and managed traffic flow. I knew things were going well when no one passed me on the bike. Surprised I wasn't cold because we were soaked the whole way with rain. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing. Maybe could've navigated corners more aggressively and not lost speed but had ZERO interest in going down on that wet pavement. Transition 2
Comments: This was a great transition. I've been working on pedaling with feet out of the shoes and that went well. I side-saddled in and jumped off right at the mount line - some lady yelled "Sweet dismount"...I was grinning. I vaselined the entry to my running shoes, so slammed into them, grabbed my race belt and strapped it as I ran. What would you do differently?: ...tough to beat. I know that several people had slightly faster T2's but I don't know how. Run
Comments: Still my weak spot, but I have gotten faster this year. Was battling a mild side stitch when the second person in my age group passed me (ages marked on calves) I just tried to keep him in my sights, but couldn't catch. What would you do differently?: Would like to up that first mile slightly, but this was a pretty good run for me. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, scarf down watermelon and banana, talk to family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim training nonexistent. Event comments: Overall a well-run race, so I apologize for listing negatives. Easier than listing the several things that went without a hitch. The swim out blowup collapsing was inexcusable. Volunteers didn't know everything and did not know who I should speak to to get questions answered. Lastly, 3D did not want ppl in transition to get their gear until the last racer was in from the bike (rightly so). No one was manning the entrance I went in only to see a racer come through. I felt bad, but had no idea. All in all, this was a good race, and I hit my goal of becoming age-group competitive in sprints this year. Last updated: 2008-09-08 12:00 AM

Got up 3 hours before. Ate 2 peanut butter toasts and a banana.
Gatorade sipped for the next hour.
Powergel half hour before my wave.
Complete prepping of gear the day before helps with being able to sleep.
Absolutely none. Too busy managing the rainy cold to worry about it.
