Comments:

Good run for me. Pace was just about right. My stick-on bib# on the front of my jersey came loose midway through run (persperation)

Transition went smoothly.....No glitches.

Comments:

Didn't have my head in the bike segment. For whatever reason, I never checked my average pace during the race. I took it a little to easy on the ride. Early on in the first loop, I dropped my water bottle and made the decision to stop and retrieve it. Paid particular close attention to the following the route on the first loop. Guess I became complacent about my pace because I was reaching 30+mph on a couple of bike course downhills.
What would you do differently?:

Check my avg. speed.... Dah!!!

Drink more fluids! Finished one 24oz bottle and was working on my second at the end of the ride. Should have drank more fluids based on my performance on the last run. But, on the other hand I was feeling good and thought I had drank enough fluids.
Transition 2

Transition went smoothly.....No glitches.
Run
  • 26m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt really great after getting off the bike and at the start of the run; very unusual for me to feel this good after getting of the bike. However, after about the first mile, I began to fade. Heat and dehydration I suspect as the root cause. Began my run/walk routine from that point on to the finish line. At one point I remember at the base of a short climb that I could no way run/jog up that hill. Legs were gone....
What would you do differently?:

Drink more fluids.....
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat.... Did not do a good job of hydrating during the bike segment...

Event comments:

My first Championship race! Excellent! The run & bike courses were excellent too. 1200 athletes registered for this race; twenty in my age group. Four registered in my age group were no shows and one athlete did not finish. 75 athletes DNF and 17 were DQ (I think for cheating on the bike course). The first 12 in my age group automatically qualify for Worlds in Sept. Me, finishing at 13, am first on the roll down list to be called if someone in the top twelve elects not to go to Worlds; got my fingers crossed that I will get the call to go to Worlds.
