Run
Comments: Started off with the 3:10 pacer for the first four miles. Just to keep things in check and see how the legs where. I had been having some problems since the massage but things were feeling sweet. Dumped the shirt on mile four and put some space between me and the first pace pack. Things went along rather nicely until I need a bathroom stop. This was a whopping total of 2 minutes. Next time I might not eat as much Pizza the night before. That or maybe I should wake up earlier to get the bowel movement before the race. Either way, this ate a chunk. Came out of the porta-john before the pacer and started clicking off sub 7 miles. Went through the half at a controlled 1:32:49. A little off pace for a 3:05 but in each boston pace. Could lose 4 minutes and still be safe. That let kept my mind busy and pace up for 13-14 as I was again, on a bit of an island. On the back loop of Ocean Boulevard, I was finally able to race again. Just started picking off guys and dropping solid miles. Fastest was a 6:39 at mile 19. This lost anybody who was close to me. I started to wander mentally because I had no one to race and the pace faltered big time. 20 mile split was in 2:20:33 and I knew boston was in the bag. At this point, I was determined to race, end well but not kill myself. Saving the legs and getting back quicker became the priority with a sub 3:05 if the cards felt right. 22 - 23 were in the 7:30 range. 22 was a complete stop to get water and down a gel (there was no food at 16 and I felt my blood sugar crashing) add in my shoe lace coming undone and I've whopped on a minute to my time. Grr..... Cruised into the finish trying to pass as many as possible. Passed the last person I saw right at about 25.75, kicked it home and finished very strong. Very happy with the day What would you do differently?: Bathroom before hand, have back up food solution for 16 - 18 miles range. Double loop shoes and bam, I'd been in 3:02-3:03 range. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got the shoes off and went to find the girlfriend. Ate half a bagel and a banana. Nothing special, was able to survive the 3 flights up to the condo and knew I'd be good. What limited your ability to perform faster: Silly mistakes Event comments: I'll be putting this on my yearly calender. Good race, nice setup, easy access from Columbia and a constant barometer of my progress. Last updated: 2008-09-22 12:00 AM

Alarm went off at 5:22. Showered, ate a bagel, took a swig of Gatorade and got in the car.
Walked to the start line, kissed the lady friend, waited for the gun, then went.
It's 26.2 there's not much that needs to be done before hand.
