Run
Comments: Felt fatigued from the start. Maybe I ran too much in the taper week? Never really felt my breathing get into a rhythm. Felt my tank was just not full mid-way through and I struggled to keep my pace up. Only took two 8oz containers of nuun and relied on the water on the course, but the water stops really slowed me down because of the wait. Took 3 gels on the course and I definitely needed more as I started to bonk at mile 12 and then bonked at mile 12.5. I still shuffle-ran my way in, but my tank was completely empty. NOT a good feeling! If it wasn't for my pace-bunny I would have started walking at mile 12. What would you do differently?: Have a gel right before the run and a couple of extra gels during the run. Better nutrition and less activity the 2 days prior to race day. Maybe not run the day before. Focus on breathing correctly. Post race
Warm down: Tried not to pass out so I paced around and drank a gatorade and had a yogurt immediately afterwards. Walked back to car to change and then back to have food and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was happy I did it and proud of the training, but in order to have a better experience I need to do a better taper and bring more nutrition with me. Event comments: The training was better than the race. I didn't meet my two goals, but met my 3rd goal of pacing under 10 min./mile. They needed better organization of water stations. No bananas passed the 1st station. Could have used a massage tent! Need to get my nutrition worked out for a run event if I am doing something for more than 100 minutes. Coffee, water, nuun, oatmeal, bagel, cream cheese, banana. Then 30min before: banana, 1/2 clif bar.
Jogged 1/3 mile. Probably needed more to shake the fatigue from my legs.
