Age Group Rank = 12/24
Pre-race routine:

Woke up got to transition with about 15 minutes to set up, ate a banana and attempted a cliff bar, but I could barely get the banana down and couldn't eat even a bite of the cliff bar. Too nervy.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 35m 40s
  • 1761 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really need to figure out sighting. I know I swam an extra 100 yards by zigzagging all over the lake.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to sight better and push harder. The swim felt very easy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

It's not counted in the transition, but I had my Garmin 305 on the top bar of my bike and didn't realize it till I'd left transition. It took me at least a minute to get my watch on, my fingers weren't working right.
What would you do differently?:

Hurry, plan better and put my strap on my wrist so I can clip in the 305 instead of lacing the watch strap.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 40s
  • 22 miles
  • 18.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt queasy during the entire bike. Almost puked once and didn't really feel like I had my legs under me till the last 2 miles or so.
What would you do differently?:

Do more swim/bike bricks,
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Pretty decent transition. Nothing special here. I was glad to be off the bike.
Run
  • 55m 10s
  • 6 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

The first 2 miles felt great, I was on about 8 minute pace, about 9 minutes for miles 3 and 4 and about 10 minutes for 5 and 6.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train more. It's that simple. Most of the bike/run bricks I have done I ended at 2-3 miles in. It totally showed up during this part of the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage, light stretching and hung out for awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too little training. Not enough base.

Event comments:

This was my 1st Olympic Tri and I definately made my goals. I was hoping for a sub 3 hour performance, with an outside shot at 2:45. From my first ever tri, a sprint, I shaved 1:20min/mile off my run pace, added 2mph on the bike and swam significantly faster. Now I have something to shoot for next year. Maybe 2:30 will be my goal next year.
