Swim
Comments: Tough swim. Big swells and a strong sweep. I must admit that I did have fun out there. Sighting was near impossible with the size of the swells so I just used swim caps and splashing until I was close enough to see the buoy. I think I may have kicked someone during the swim and I feel terrible about it. I know that things like this happen, we've all been kicked myself included. But this one felt solid, like I may have gotten their head. I took a couple seconds after it happened to look around me and I didn't see anyone struggling so I made the assumpution that if I did kick them it must not have been too bad What would you do differently?: More OWS practice, and just more swimming in general Transition 1
Comments: Terrible T1. My suit got stuck and I just felt frazzled the whole time. I couldn't get clipped into my bike, i think my toe covers were in the way a bit. What would you do differently?: Flying mount. That would have been smart for today but I'm still not to confident with it. I really need to practice T1 more Bike
Comments: I had a good bike ride. I was able to settle in nicely after the first loop. I rode closely (legally) with a teammate of mine, so we were always in view of each other. I hammered the downhills and maxed out at just over 38 mph. Coming down the final hill on the first loop things got sketchy. I was passing someone who thankfully moved right after I yelled "on your left", but a girl hugging the center line would not move, I screamed a few times and new that a turn was coming up soon. Thankfully she moved at the last second and saved us both from what would have been a nasty crash since I was nearing 40 mph. What would you do differently?: More bike work and leg strength workouts Transition 2
Comments: A pretty good T2, standard fair with not much to do for a sprint triathlon. What would you do differently?: Smoother and quicker. Run
Comments: Pretty good run. My goal was to push my limits on the run and I'm not sure I got there. I was fighting off the urge to vomit on the bike and I was sure I'd end up letting it out on the run. It never came and I had a bit of stomach distress (most likely from swallowing salt water on the swim) I came off the bike with my teammate Matt and we were in transition together. He told me that by the time he bent down to put on his runners and looked up, I was gone. What would you do differently?: Push it! It was only a 5k, I could have gone harder Post race
Warm down: Jogged the run course backwards with a teammate and cheerd on the other athletes. Did some stretching and hung out for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Limited training and the Montauk HIM last Sunday. I'm happy with my performance and didn't really have any expectations coming into this race aside from having fun with my friends. I wasn't event supposed to race on Sunday because of an infection in my foot. My doctor was also racing and when he saw how my foot had improved he gave me his blessing. Event comments: Excellent race as I've come to expect from JP and Tri and Du It Multisport. This event is a great end to the season, I'll certainly come back next year. Up at 3:45 and out of the house by 4:15am. Ate a PB sandwich on the drive and drank some water. Ate a banana once I got to the race site.
Not much, just walked around talking to friends and some very light stretching
