Run
Comments: I was super excited for this race. Grew up knowing about this race and knowing people in the race, but never imagined I was going to be one of those to participate. I think I scared Kelly a little as I was running faster than normal and longer than normal. Lots of people and often had to slow down before stepping on them. Was able to push myself through the leg pain, the hill killed me, but I got through it with Kelly by my side. She only abandoned me once to chase the naked guy in the loin cloth...but once she got the picture she waited for me to catch up. It was interesting to see the various costumes. I was starting to really feel my leg but the end was in sight so I kept going...then the flying beer nearly ruined it. I was too close to give up over flying beer...but in the process of trying to avoid it, I tweaked the bad leg pretty good. I was crying by the time I got to the finish line. Some was the pain, but mostly because I actually finished the race...longest distance, faster than I've been before...and I had Kelly right there with me. What would you do differently?: drink more water in morning....have bottle with me perhaps. Not trip over flying beer in cup and really hurt leg. Post race
Warm down: grabbed a bottle of water, limped around for awhile...then laid in a parking lot while Kelly stretched me and laughed at how many little kids were asking "why's that lady lying on the ground?" Kelly came up with a different answer each time to help out. Once Kelly and I were done with our water, we walked back to the shuttle drop off location and waited for quite awhile to get back on an MCC bus. It was cold! I was hurting...kelly was going to be late to her Turkey Day festivities, but it was all truly a memorable event. What limited your ability to perform faster: whatever the hell is wrong with my leg/knee Event comments: having never participated before, wasn't sure what to expect...but having done a 5K in October, I was looking forward to a water station and the only one we saw, was completely out before we got there. LOTS OF PEOPLE! Need to get creative with a costume idea for next year! Last updated: 2008-10-09 12:00 AM
