Pre-race routine:

Woke up a 4:45 and had my oatmeal and berries, coffee on way to race.
Event warmup:

Really just stretching and practiceing transition. I had to use the restroom 2 times and it was not pretty, i dont know if it was nerves, or something i ate the day before.
Swim
  • 40m 44s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was fine, I just didntt use bodyglide and got rubbed raw under arms. I wen off course slightly on the way out, but didnt hurt to mch. Had tto stop and adjust goggles after being kicked off.
What would you do differently?:

Use bodyglide and not pay for it with a nasty rash all day
Transition 1
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

The strippers did a great job getting me out of my suit. I had no problem finding my bike. I fell trying to get my socks on, socks are a bad choice. I also thought i would drink a red bull while pushing my bike, the bike fell.
What would you do differently?:

Not try to drink while pushing bike
Bike
  • 2h 42m 57s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.62 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not rinse the soap out of my bettle verywell, so all my prepared drink was soapy tasting. However, they did have great support on the course and i was able to drink enough. Also, I dropped my PB sandwich that i was craving...but i had brought more food than i needed, so a couple pro bars were just enough. Yes, that was my sandwich in the middle of Rio Salado going toward the highway!
What would you do differently?:

Rinse my bottle out better
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

No problems here, i got in and out as planned
What would you do differently?:

just go faster maybe
Run
  • 2h 18m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Where do i start. I will just give you the quick and dirty. It hurt. My goals to this point had been broken, but the run i went over by 18 mins. I had to stop under the 202 for emergency restroom break, that took a couple mins. My knees just hurt....I just elected to walk 45 seconds after every aid station, that helped quiet a bit. At mile 12 I caught the adrenaline rush and ran the last 2 at an eight min pace! It felt good to finish strong! I hit the slip and slide and took me a couple mins to get it together.
What would you do differently?:

Not really sure. Maybe do longer brick workouts. I just was miserable.
Post race
Warm down:

couldnt really do anything, i was freezing, dehydrated, and my knees were in really bad shape. I got over to the landis tent and got some relief. Shortly after i ate a whole pizza1!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run.

Event comments:

The course was great with plenty of volunteers. I did great to my ability until the run. My mind was strong, I just really had bad stomach and knee issues. I was proud to get in under my time of 6 hrs!
