Swim
What would you do differently?: Go out near the front of the first group and farther to the wide sie of the course. Transition 1
Comments: It was a long uphill run up a boat launch area to T-1. My brother in law later commented that we seemed to be running very slowly after getting out of the water. What would you do differently?: Run faster I guess Bike
What would you do differently?: Push harder going back up the hill and at the very end of the bike. I though I would rest a little to get ready for the run, but my legs were still heavy and tired. Transition 2
Comments: Got my running shoes on fairly quickly, however I stood still while I put my number belt on. What would you do differently?: Put number belt on while I am running. Run
Comments: So as soon as I start the run I pop a GU gel (Espresso Love) in my mouth and BAM!!, I instantly have this funky cotton mouth coffee syrup taste in my mouth that I can;t even spit out. For the first mile or so I am reoccupied trying to spit this stuff out and clear my mouth. When I got to the first water stop, I was able to rinse some of the foul taste, but not all of it. I felt slow on the first mile of uphill, and did not seem to speed up as much as I wanted on the flat rolling hill areas. I did run back down the hill well though. My biggest concern was that I was passed by probably 20 people on the run. My goal will be to train more running and improve that portiion of my race. I would like to be neutral on the run at a minimum. What would you do differently?: I will use GU before the swim, but mot before the bike or run anymore. It seems that when at rest while breathing though your nose it is OK. But breathing though you mouth created some problems for me. Post race
Warm down: Walked around start finish area will a liter of water. Visited friends and watched all my other race friends fish as I shouted there names. No post race food and only limited beverages. What limited your ability to perform faster: Now that it is over, I could have swam a little harder which would have kept me in clear water longer. this would have resulted in about a minute improvement in my time. I should have gotten out of the saddle on the uphill climb on the bike, other than that I had a decent ride. I did not perform well at all on the run (8:20 per mile just won't get it done). I am simply under trained and need to fix that by traning more. Event comments: A better race for me than I expected. My goal was 1:32:00 to 1:35:00. Finishing in 1:23:45 was remarkable for me. Last year, this was my very first Triahtlon and I thought it was really well done for a fund raiser activity. My time was an appalling 1:55:00 while exactly one year later I finished in 1:23:45. Compared to last year there were only a fraction of the volunteers working this race. The race director again used a small bull horn to attempt to address over 500 entrants. Most of the people including myself could not understand what he was saying. I found the event to be largely unorganized and poorly done. At least some school kids got proceed to help buy them books. Sadly, gentlemen lost his life during the swim portion of the race. An autopsy is underway, however I presume he died of a heart attack. We all wish his family well. Last updated: 2008-11-03 12:00 AM

Woke up WAY too early (4:00am) and walked to the transition area to discover that it had not been prepared the night before (chalk lines) as had been done in previous years. I went ahead and hauled all my stuff near where I wanted to be setup. It was after 7:00am when race volunteers began measuring and putting down chalk for the transition areas. No bike racks ara available so you have to lay you bike on the ground. As soon as the area was chalked, I put my stuff in it as did about fifty other people that had arrived by then. As it turned out, the event coordinators did not have enough spots for tall the racers so people where setting up all over the place. It was kind of a cluster.
Put my wet suit on real early and swam around near the boat dock.
