Run
Post race
Event comments: I wanted to run this slow and my thinking of slow was like 5:30 but Ive never done a stand alone marathon. I just went out to have fun and keep on my feet. I didnt even have to try to go slow! LOL it just happened. I didnt wear my garmin or anything cause I wasnt going to worrry about my time and didnt want to get upset if my pace was like a slug. At mile 5 my shirt was rubbing my arm and burning so at mile 7 we went past our hotel. Tried to call Tanner to get him up to bring me down a change of shirt but didnt answer. Waited a minute tried again and he was in the shower. I didnt have my key so I had to wait for him so he could unlock the entrance door to get to the room. So I changed my shirt and grabbed a diet dew and had about a third of that and then headed back out to the street and jumped back in the run. Porta potties were hard to come by and only had 2 per stop so the lines were long. Waited for 3 maybe 4 of them throughout the run. At mile 9 I met a lady from Atlanta who she and her 71 year old mother decided to do this together as a half marathon and she was walking it but didnt feel good at all. I walked and talked with her for a mile then a lady on the side yelled Karen...you mom had to drop out she is in the hotel. Now this lady was telling me that I was helping her get thru this and if I needed to head on and run that was ok and she hoped she could finish...so I said Im not in a hurry I'll hang with you so I walked her to the switch off at mile 13.....just as we got there it started to rain! 52 degrees and rain. It really put a damper on the race. I met up with another lady and started to run with her for about a mile or so and she said I have to slow down...I cant keep this pace you are carrying me along and I said you were carrying me as well thank you....I stopped there for a potty break that took forever. Got to mile 16 for the food station and they were out of everything...that sucked cause I didnt bring anything myself. So then I had to make it to mile 24 and hope they had some gel or something. Got to mile 24 and had a gel and an orange and that tasted nice. The bottoms of my feet are what was bothering me the most. The day before we left I finally had gone to the doctor over a nasty pain Ive been having in my pelvis and he said it was a femoral hernia and I would have to have a surgery to fix it. The entire race that didnt bother me at all! Even when I thought about the hernia it didnt make it hurt. My feet ofcourse were wet from the rain and I didnt have any problems with blisters at all....so maybe these will be the socks I wear for IMKY. My guess for my run time is 5:45 coulda been alittle less but not by much. Was about 15-20 min trying to get Tanner to get me a shirt and am grateful I did cause my arms woulda been raw. Something went wrong with my bra cause when I got back to the room to shower the water hit my body and it felt like something stung my underside of my tah tah and I look there and both are just raw! Didnt even feel it during the run but need to change to a different bra for sure. I was hoping to finish this race and feel like I could continue on for another 11 miles since my 60K is 4 weeks away but when I finsihed I didnt feel at all like going even 1 more mile. I have to stay on my feet for the next 4 weeks so I can finish that ultra! Last updated: 2008-11-06 12:00 AM
