Run
Comments: My plan was to break this into 6 mile segments, so it would not seem so daughting. The beginning started out well. Mile 11 I needed a port-john and passed them since there was a long line. By mile 12 I wasn't going to pass them again no matter how long the line. Got lucky, next set of porta-johns there was no line. I must have been happy there - I spent 3 1/2 minutes there. Mile 13 saw hubby and felt good. It was great to see him! I was most worried about miles 12 - 18. Mile 16 hit another porta-john. I was good until mile 17...we hit this national park and I had trouble...no real scenery, so no real distractions. Mile 17 I started walking the water stations. Besides being bored with the scenery I had dry mouth real bad. Mile 22 hit porta-johns again. I have never peed so much in my life...I spent over 8 minutes of my marathon in the porta-johns! Mile 24 came and I was feeling good. It actually hurt more to stop and walk the water station than to keep running. So I kept running. Felt strong at the end. What would you do differently?: Don't spend so much time in the porta-johns. This was my first marathon so I am happy with it. My goal was to the run the whole thing and I did that except a few of the water stations. Post race
Warm down: Walked around to find my family. Then sat on the beach with our friends and ate pizza. It was a real nice day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not knowing what to expect with the distance. Event comments: This race was awesome. Everything was very well done (reg, communication, expo, race). And the support out of the course was incredible. I've never had so many strangers cheer me on by name. It was such a positive experience! Last updated: 2008-11-06 12:00 AM

Got up, showered, ate a powerbar, woke up the hubby, drank some Gatorade, talked to our friends we stayed with, woke up the kids & got them dressed, left for the race.
I really didn't do much of a warm up. Once we got to the race area I (we) walked around, tried to stay warm, saw Margot start the 1/2, hit the porta-johns (these will be very important to me during the race) found the marathon start, another pee break, said bye to kids and hubby and waited a few minutes for the start. Then off we went.
