Comments:

We started out the run all together (Dad, me, Kari, my sister Debbie and sister-in-law Andrea. There were 12,000 runners so the quarters where tight and it was somewhat hard to stay together the first few miles. The first mile we went slow and talked as we made our way through downtown and took a right on 6th street to run past all the bars and nightclubs. After getting to the right turn on Wesleyn and taking the turn to go up the first hill, we decided to walk for 2 minutes. The talking had gotten less frequent as we huffed up the first steep hill. The rest of the way was rolling hills but through beautiful neighborhoods and eclectic parts of old Austin. Dad grew increasingly excited as we averaged better than 12 minute miles. He is 63 and a cancer and heart disease survivor who has a running problem. I lead the way up the hills and he just concentrated on my heels and tried to stay with me. I tried to keep an ear on him with his heavy breathing and trying to gage how hard he was working. Personally, I felt great and could have gone my usual 10 min mile on this course. However, I really enjoyed the experience of running together and his excitement at making such good time.

Mile 1 = 11:50
Mile 2 = 11:33
Mile 3 = 11:02
Mile 4 = 11:35
Mile 5 = 10:52

Event comments:

As usual, this was fun and relaxing to be with friends and family before a HUGE Thanksgiving meal. The course changes each year now depending on the A&M vs t.u. game being home or away. I like the course for home games but both are hilly and hard if you try to run for a time. The home course is much more scenic, the away course goes more through campus. FYI, the race report was done for fun (ie not all real)
