Run
Comments: The furthest I have ever run was 11 miles, 2 weeks ago. I knew that I wanted to keep a 10:30 pace for as long as I could. I was hoping this would be for the whole race. I also get pretty bored running, so whether she liked it or not, I decided that I was going to run with MAV. We are both at the same pace. We lined up in the 10min area with Kathy, Lisa, John and Max. The gun went off and it took 2 min to cross the starting line. It was pretty crowded for the 1st 2 miles. Garmin shows we were averaging 9:50 miles, but it felt way slower than that. It was a blast running with MAV. She had her Garmin set to kms, so I was keeping her posted on a our pace and distance. It was good to keep my mind occupied. We saw Lisa, Mina, Max, Scott and Kathy at different points throughout the race. It's always great seeing friendly faces in the crowd. We were going a pretty good pace for the first half, which may have caught up to me in the end. I was feeling really good through 8 miles then my ankles and hips started to hurt. I don't know what it is. I am guessing it's part conditioning, part having flat feet, and part needed new shoes. Anyway, at mile 10 I told MAV to go on without me. I did the walk/run thing for the last 3 miles. It was starting to drizzle and get windy and I started getting cold, so I picked up my running the last 1.5. I had the course at 13.26, but the Garmin never seems to have the same measurements as the race distance. What would you do differently?: I would probably try to keep with my scheduled pace a bit more. I had a gel and some shot blocks and drank my gatorade, I probably could of had a better nutrition plan. We also walked through the aid stations, which isn't a good thing for me. I need to keep moving. As soon as I stop, it's hard to get moving again. These aren't excuses, just learning experiences for next time. I also would have like to finish with MAV. Maybe at our first Marathon. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line, sat down to remove my chip and tried not to scream like I was giving birth when I stood back up. Walked around to try and find the gang, but didn't see anyone and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Considering this was exactly my 365th day since I began training, just finishing was a huge accomplishment. Of course you can always go faster and do things differently, but I am very happy with the outcome. A huge thank you to BT, especially the Mass BT gang, for the past year. It's hard to believe it was I little less than a year ago I met up with MAV on a cold and rainy day to get into 55 degree water for a practice swim and a 12 mile bike ride the week before my first race. You can't ask for a better community to be a part of. I couldn't have gotten this far without your support. Event comments: Race was very organized, lots of volunteers, crowds were great, expo looked good. The only issue I had was there was less water stations than I expected and the water tasted like they took it out of the ocean. Last updated: 2008-11-17 12:00 AM

We were going to stay over on Sat night, but with the anticipated forcast of snow or rain all morning, we decided that Sara and the kids would just stay home. So I cancelled the room and drove down Sunday morning. Not a bad ride to the cape with no traffic. Met up with Lisa, John, MAV & family, the G's (Kathy, Kevin and Emily), Mina and Jonah. Hung out in the lobby and then went up to Lisa and John's room to clean up after a gel exploded in my pocket. Then we went down to meet the rest of the gang and do our BT photo. I must say, we are one good looking group of athletes:)
A couple of us did a short jog around the parking lot.
