Run
Comments: My goal was to avoid the temptation from the dark side to start out too fast and bonk before I get to T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Did not have any major problems. It may be a little strange, but I was practicing my transition a little in the hotel room the night before. What would you do differently?: Not sure, but there must be something because some people are able to do it a lot faster. Bike
Comments: There was light rain for 2/3 of the time and it was followed by sunshine. I saw one guy biff it on a turn. He was ok. A couple flats. I thank the bike tire gods for not getting a flat. It would not be fun changing a tube in the rain. There were times with head wind, tail wind and cross wind. Just no down wind or up wind. I guess an up wind would be bad because that could mean you are in a tornado. My computer must be off because I was going to back off a little and stretch 1/2 miles before the end but the end came earlier than I expected. What would you do differently?: Start stretching earlier Transition 2
Comments: Other than my legs cramping and feeling like limp noodles, nothing eventful. What would you do differently?: Ease off and stretch on the bike Run
Comments: Took first mile for legs get into a groove. However, I felt like hell for the last 3/4 mile. What would you do differently?: Train more Post race
Warm down: Eat BBQ pork sandwiches and all the sides. Event comments: I really enjoyed the race. Having it being my first race ever, I do not have anything to compare it to. There was one snafu that may have affect some racers. There were several bib numbers that have detached themselves from the riders' bikes and were seen along the road. It was due to the wind, mechanical problem and/or user problem. Apparently that breaks 2 USAT rules, littering and something about leaving equipment. 2 minute penalties could be applied. Obviously, it was being disputed with the USAT referee and I do not know what became of it. I certainly do not think it is fair. It's good to know these rules, anyway. Visit the port-a-potty a couple times. Scope out the transition area. Had a GU 15 mins prior to the race.
Ran around a little and stretched.
