Pre-race routine:

Mike and I and our girls spent the night at the in-laws along with two other of Mike's siblings and their kids. We drove to the race on Thanksgiving with Mike, Andrea and Debbie (sisters in law) and Big Mike my father in law. Ate a light breakfast before heading out to the race site. It was so great being able to do this race with family. When done, we'll head back for an incredible family Thanksgiving meal with about 25 people total.
Event warmup:

Jogged in place for a bit. Walked to pee- long lines. Then used the first mile to warm up in the race.

Comments:

I felt a bit sluggish because of starting to enjoy the holidays a little early (a week early :)) All 5 of us started off together and then at about mile 2, Mike and his dad went ahead. I stayed with Andrea and Debbie. We stayed together for the rest of the run. We chatted and ran and then walked when we needed to. I felt really good, though I could tell I was pushing it a bit too much at some points. By mile 3 1/2 or 4, I felt my face get warm. That's when I knew I'd gone a little hard. The temperature was at about 78-80 at that point. The downhills were fun- I just floated down arms out like I was flying on a few (pretty steep). On the uphills I tried to pump my arms more than work my legs harder. It seemed to work.
What would you do differently?:

Just train more. I was very pleased that I averaged less than 12 minute miles for the whole race. My base was better than I thought. I know I can do faster with more consistent training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around getting a lot of water. I drank 2 bottles before getting back to the car. I must have needed it more than I thought.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Consistent training.

Event comments:

I'll do it again every year if possible. I didn't time myself this year but my watch said 58:45. I was chip timed in 2004 in 1:09:57. My friend told me I did it in 2005 in 1:08ish, but I couldn't find those results. I'll keep looking. Either way, I've steadily improved each time I've done it. Great day to be with family, too. I really enjoy doing this with Mike especially. He's a great motivator. Running with my sisters in law and father in law was also rewarding. I don't see them very much each year (sisters in law) so it was nice to catch up doing something so positive.

Course: The course was a bit hilly- ups and downs. The up hills were a challenge. I felt it in my butt withe every step. Water stops about every 1- 1 1/2 miles- just right. I drank at every one.
