Swim
Comments: My swim continues to be by far my worst leg. At least I get it out of the way 1st! I started out at what I thought was a good pace for a 750 meter swim. But by half way I had lost the main pack and had nobody to draft off of. I knew that My time wasn't going to stellar, so I decided to relax for the last 200 meters or so and get mentally prepared for the bike. What would you do differently?: I NEED TO HIRE A SWIM COACH! Transition 1
Comments: I made it to my bike just fine, but when I tried to get my wetsuit off it got stuck around my ankles and I probably lost 10-15 secs prying it off. After that it was a very smooth transition to the bike. I was able to get my feet in my shoes with little problem and get up to speed. What would you do differently?: Make sure that my chip strap is on the inside of my suit and practice stripping the wetsuit off more. Bike
Comments: What I was surprised by was how fast I got into the grove on the bike. Most races it takes me at least a mile to start feeling good. As soon as I crested the first big hill I felt great. I took a gel almost right out of transition which I think helped out a lot. I topped out at 45.4 mph coming down that hill and I never felt like I needed to come out of my aero-bars. I started to pass quite a few people going up the hills and it kept me very motivated for the first half. Near the turn-around my friend passed me going the other way (he is a much better swimmer than I am) and I saw that I was only about a minute down to him. I started using him as motivation to push it even harder and I caught him around mile 8 or 9. I ended up with a group of about 5-6 others going into T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing! This was one of the best bikes yet on terrain that we don't have around here. Transition 2
Comments: Every went very smooth here. I am still impressed at how well my Zoots go on without socks. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: There is a monster hill right out of transition that I just dug in and got over. I started to feel a little tired at first, but when my body recovered after that first hill I felt great. I didn't pick off as many people as on the bike, but that was probably because there weren't as many to pick off. The hills almost got to me the last mile and I thought about walking for a split second. Then I remembered that that monster hill at the beginning was going to be a easy down hill ride and it helped to push me through it. What would you do differently?: Try to push a little harder. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I felt like I had bit more left to give. Post race
Event comments: I love the change in terrian that this race offers. I wish that I could shave some time off my swim because it is the only thing that is holding me back. This was a great race. Last updated: 2008-12-04 12:00 AM
