Swim
Comments: Not a good swim, first open water swim this year, first long swim in the full wetsuit. Things did not go well at all. I got out and got a rhythm but did not feel fast. After the turn to come back, legs got weird and I had cramps in both legs. When I went to exit the water, the cramps were just crazy, the mud/sand made these worse. What would you do differently?: I have no idea, I was nearly a minute slower than last year. Geez. Transition 1
Comments: Went ok, I was 20 sec faster than last year - all went well. Had a hard time getting the suit off. I could have done better. Once I got out, mud got in my shoes, not good. I fell going out on the bike, nice cut and bruise there to match my crappy swim. Things are stacking up against me at this point. What would you do differently?: Practice more with the full wetsuit. Bike
Comments: Bike went ok - gained about 2:30 on last year, THAT's something good considering the wind and the rain. Bike felt "ok" I started to feel tired or a bonk coming on in the last 5 miles. I just did not have the gas today, too bad too because I was getting pumped to get a good run in and knew from experience that it wasn't going to be the run I like to do. What would you do differently?: nada. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, took off 10 sec from last year, smooth. What would you do differently?: nada. Run
Comments: I did not run well, I was just focusing on hitting the rolling hills, I would reel in someone, pass then focus on the next. Conditions were rough, I was metally checked out at this point and just wanted to finish. Lost about a minute and a half from last year. My run is my strength in a race, not today. Dang. What would you do differently?: Do the duathlon instead? I really think those cramps ruined my legs. Today my calves and quads are rocks, totally sore from the cramps. Too bad, I've been having a great training season to this point. I think really cold water swims are just not my thing, I'm ok with that! Post race
Warm down: Getting warmed up, some food and pondered what just happened. What limited your ability to perform faster: not worried about it right now. I thing the cold water and not being experience with the wetsuit started the chain reaction to my results. I don't want this to be a pity-party, I still had fun doing my thing. I still beat my time by 30 sec. from last year in really bad conditions, so that's a small step forward I guess. Event comments: This is a great race, just not a good day for me personally. Still, I had fun getting out with folks I like and enjoying the venue - great job Trifort and all the volunteers. Last updated: 2008-12-18 12:00 AM

drove up that morning from home, light breakfast and some good tunes in the car.
Some light running. I was not feeling all that great, I was not feeling ill just feeling not "with it".
