Run
Comments: Started out fast-ish but settled into a consistant 9:30 pace. Somewhere between miles 1 and 2 my running partner stopped for the potty and I kept going. Before I reached mile 2, I had wriggled out of my long-sleeved top. I can't imagine how, but some people were wearing hats, gloves, lined jackets, long pants, for the whole race. I felt really good, pretty much the whole race. I took a quick sip at the one water station, which was perfect. I just kept my consistent pace and told myself that it SHOULD hurt and just keep running. My Garmin said I ran about 6.3 and it's a curvy course, so despite my effort to run tangents I ended up a little over. All in all I couldn't have played this out better. Other than about 1 minute when I was thinking about the gel I wished I had brought, I kept very positive and the time flew by. What would you do differently?: I didn't train as much as I would have liked after taking time off to heal PF. I can't believe that I ran this quicker my first year, because I felt so much more in control today. I remember walking quite a bit the other time, so I must have held a quicker pace otherwise. I don't mind this distance and will find another 10K for the fall to gauge my improvement now that I'm back training more regularly. Post race
Warm down: Walked the mile back to the car. By now my PF is inflamed and the walk was uncomfortable. I hope it's not more than an inflammation (i.e. a tear). What limited your ability to perform faster: Training break this winter. Event comments: I still wish there was an aid station at 2 and 4, not just 3. I personally like the one at mile 4 so I can take a gel. But other than that, things went smoothly. I didn't try the food because the line was too long and I needed to get going. The race started at 9 and I planned to park in the nearby Lifetime Fitness ramp and walk over. I had my usual bagel w/pb, coffee and banana and left home at 7:30. Everything went as planned and parking was a cinch.
Walked a mile from Lifetime to the race start. We arrived about 20 minutes early, so just hung around and then got lined up. It was nice and warm standing in the crowd so I think my warmed up muscles stayed loose enough.
