Comments:

My goal going into this race was to break 27 minutes. I planned on running each mile at pretty much the same pace, but that's not the way it happened. Interestingly, my HR data doesn't correspond to the way I felt in the race. I felt like I was really pushing in the beginning and when I looked at my split I realized I had gone out way too fast. I backed off and started feeling better by about 1.5 miles. I really wanted to just loaf at that point, but the thought of that :27:00 kept nagging at me. I'm glad it did. Since I didn't look at my HRM during the whole race, I thought I was taking the middle mile pretty easy, but that doesn't doesn't fit with the numbers. Then I thought I'd picked up the pace for the last 1.1 mile, but again, my time was significantly slower (granted, we were going into the wind, but still....) In my little brain, I guess this tells me that I need to work on my endurance, but I'm not really sure if I'm on the mark with that assessment.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Probably nothing, except the standard comment of "train more consistently", which I'm working on. I really pushed, so I'm really happy with my performance. I had nothing left in the tank at the end, that's for sure.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to pool locker room (10 minutes or so). Tried to swim a few easy laps, but both feet and one leg were insisting on cramping up on me. Bagged the laps after ten minutes and played around with my friend's son for about 20 minutes instead.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Under-training, slight pain in my left hamstring. It's been tight for about a week now and it did act up on me during the run.

Event comments:

I didn't attend the chili cook-off as I wanted to try to swim. Little did I know about the cramping. (I guess that's why tris start with the swim?!)

Heard there were over 1,000 participants, up from about 800 last year. This event is really growing!
